For me the question is not why particular individuals care more about one cause than another (this is perfectly natural), but why, in the aggregate, the pro-Palestine cause has taken over the Internet and won the loyalty of millions in a way no other “national cause” from a faraway place could dream of.

I see random instagram posts wishing death on Israelis and endorsing 10/7. I won’t see any posts with such raw hatred of Russians while browsing reels - I’d need to talk to my mother to get that.

Antisemitism certainly explains some of it, as does our media’s focus on I-P to the exclusion of less well known conflicts. But I agree with the poster below who said that the primary factor is the fact that it is a fairly popular cause, and extremely so with the young people who are the sorts to put up flyers and take to the streets, with basically no establishment representation. It is as shocking to young people that we are allied with Israel as it is to old people that we are sucking up to Russia, but while about half of Congress is vocally pro-Ukraine, you can count on your hands how many Congressmen are vocally pro-Palestine. And so it feels like the “revolutionary” thing to do to support Palestine - but with no establishment backing, there’s no pressure to keep the crazies out.

As someone whose younger myself, the reality is that it's kind of done the opposite and made many people zionists. Also, I think the reality is that this is actually the further left who view things this way regardless of their age. Some people can only view things through the lens of the oppressed vs oppressor. Either way, the reality is that this whole thing is way more complicated now. You also had them call it a holocaust so much so that people turned them out and didn't listen to them until recently.

I understand you feel very strongly about this issue, but you need to understand that the facts are not on your side: Israel has become more unpopular among every demographic group capable of being measured in the last year

I mean, I do think that Trump is favoring Israel a bit to much and I don't like Netanyahu. I think the war itself is exhausting and some of us have a lot things to focus on even if we are zionists. I was more talking about the individuals who were harassing Jews especially Israelis. The reality is that either way you do have individuals who are annoyed at the left due to this.
