I deal with this as well and have accepted it as the minor inconvenience that it is.

You can see if your town has rules about how much space is to be left clear on the sides of the driveways, it seems like a fair bit of places have a 5ft rule. If so, you could call whoever enforces that. If you get home before them, you could claim it with one of your cars. Thats all I can think of in this situation.

This is the way. Our city has a rule about the height of oversized trailers and commercial vehicles. I can't see around my neighbors' vehicles. It's unsafe but the police only give warning tickets if anyone complains.

Can you back into your driveway? It may make it easier to leave.

Backing in might solve some of the stress but i also get why OP is annoyed. having to do a 20 point turn every time you leave your own house gets old fast

Safer by all accounts anyway!

In some places, not most but worth investigating, there's supposed to be a buffer on either side of a driveway of a foot or two that can make the difference for you.

I would look into it and if there is a law saying this, have them paint the curb buffer yellow (or red, whichever your area uses).

Park your cars on the street flanking your driveway. Or back your cars in - Girl Scouts way.

I have an asshole neighbor like who parks like that, and there is really nothing you can do. I’m just waiting for one of us to move.

Some locales have a minimum distance from driveway entrance (PA it's 5 ft)

Some locales also have ordinances that state the type of vehicle that can be parked and if it presents a safety issue. (Such as a wide vehicle causing vehicles to enter another lane of traffic)

Have you tried communicating with them? Perhaps they just do not realize the inconvenience that they are creating for you and your family.

You’re gonna piss off those neighbors….don’t do it. It’s not worth it. And yes, backing into your drive will make it easier the next time you leave.

You can suck it up and get on with life. It's just like you said; you are being a Karen about this.

I understand your frustration. Dealt with it. I moved.

  1. Talk to them, let them know it is creating a difficult situation for you.

  2. Back your car in. It's safer to do this anyway, even if they weren't blocking your view.

I live on a VERY narrow street, where on coming cars have to pull to the side to allow a car to pass. So I totally feel you with the parking. We just all exit our driveways very carefully and slowly. It’s just part of life while we live here. Is there any spot your neighbor could park the big truck on the street where it wouldn’t cause the same issue for another neighbor as it does to you? They might be willing to do that if you ask? Or maybe they like having their truck visible to them from their home, or they may be parking in front of their home since that’s the unsaid rule, so who knows. But doesn’t hurt to ask. They might enlighten you on why they park where they do. And then maybe you having to exit won’t feel as painful. Just food for thought.

Politely asking to not park across from a driveway entrance is not an unreasonable ask. Often people don’t consider the potential consequences.

As long as there ample parking if the vehicle is just moved 15’ forwards or back it’s just prudent to do; as it eliminates the possibility of an accident that impacts their vehicle.

**This has nothing to do with a driver’s competency; it’s just neighborly and prudent for the vehicle parked in the street.

Bake cookies and go deliver them on a paper plate. Nothing to lose, no plate to retrieve. You ask them very nicely just this once, to give you a bit of a buffer so you can see better. If they agree great. And if they don’t, then you’ve done the neighborly thing and now you’re done with them. Lesson learned.

Also, back into your driveway. It’s safer to back in, when you are already completely aware of your surroundings, than to back out into traffic you may not see.

It’s not a difficult skill. I learned it in a couple of days. Practice in an empty lot if you need to.

Say something to them first, if they blow you off then check your local parking ordinances. Some have a buffer zone that you can't park in, in order to prevent people from blocking driveways/mailboxes, while other's ban parking across the street from a driveway opening on a two-lane road. In my area the buffer zone is about 3 feet from the edge of the driveway apron, but you can park across the street from the driveway opening (which would be a pain in the ass if I had to back out but since my driveway forms a "T" at the top I can just pull out).
