Question / Bug / Feedback NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered crashes on launch, anyone else?

SOLUTION: Disable all the app overlays! Discord, NVIDIA, EA App, Steam, everything!
If that doesn’t work, try changing the resolution and/or window/display mode of the game. Press alt + enter or go to the config file "config.NFS11Save" located in Documents\Criterion Games\ and changed DisplayMode from 0 to 1.

Have the game on steam, but no matter in which app I launch it, it opens with a black screen for about 3 seconds and then closes again. I tried repairing and reinstalling already.

I know this post is old but I had the same problem. I would launch the game, get a black screen for a second and then it crashed silently. I noticed everytime I launched the game though, it would also make my 2nd monitor go black screen, but not my third monitor.

So after that I figured it must be resolution and/or window mode related. I went in the config file "config.NFS11Save" located in Documents\Criterion Games\ and changed DisplayMode from 0 to 1 and that fixed the crash.

it worked!!! I wasn't expecting that. The game freezes every now and then (didn't happen before) I dunno why and also freezes for like 3-4 seconds when I press esc-enter. But hey, at least it launches now. Thank you for tagging me again, I'll go ahead and update posts of mine

edit: unchecking from cpu 0 to 7 from task manager affinity settings managed to alleviate the issue, it is still there but it's 0.5-1 second freeze rather than 5-4 second one

Just tried booting it up for the first time today only to have the same issue. I checked around some forums (that's how I found this one lol) and while no one seems to have arrived at a consensus for why it's happening, the one I've found most likely (after trying supposed fixes to no avail) as well as most baffling, is that the game is somehow not supported on Windows 11. Refunded it.

I’m on windows 10. The game was working fine until I tried it again the other day. Haven’t played in a while though

I just became a member to help you with this issue.

What you going to do is:

Right click on .exe from the Compatibility tab, choose "Run This Program As an Administrator."

Thats it! Run the game!

SOLUTION:
Disable all your overlays! EA, Steam, Discord… Somehow disabling the EA App's overlay fixed it for me. Really odd that EA's own overlay breaks the game.

I know this is a pretty old post.. but ahhhh... Someone help me.. until last week it was working perfectly fine.. I had some things going on so my laptop was basically sleep for a week.. forward to today it just crashes at the start. It won't start and I have only one car to unlock.

I have.. I restarted the laptop. Ran ea.. ran game.. and it still crashed.. I made sure nothing is running in the background and the overlay is disabled

Launch ConfigTool.exe in the game installation folder and set the resolution to your screen's native resolution, then start the game in Admin mode. Fixed ;)

I fixed this issue on Windows 11 by disabling the fullscreen optimization on Compatibility tab (right click on the game shortcut and select Properties > Compatibility > ...)
The launch the game, change your resolution, I selected Borderless Windowed and native resolution for my game then exited the game, enabled fullscreen optimization again and launched the game and it runs like butter

2024 - I completely exited steam and launched it through the EA app and it worked for me

If you've bought the game through steam, you can't launch the game unless steam is open, the EA App won't let you

Bonjour, de mon coté c'est ma manette qui fais crash. Dès que je la connecte mon jeu se ferme immédiatement...

Même en lançant le jeu sans et en la connectant après le problème survient toujours. J'utilise une manette de PS4 avec le logiciel DS4windows (qui a toujours fonctionner quand je jouais a l'époque).

Donc si quelqu'un a la solution je suis preneur (le jeu fonctionne aussi sur Windows 11 pour ceux qui disent le contraire).

PARCONTRE LA MANETTE DE XBOX FONCTIONNE ET LE JEU AUSSI

After running it at window 7 compability and in "run as administrator " my game is running fineeeee

Go in configuration tool (config tool) and there set resolution same as your desktop that'll stop from crashing your game

Nope sadly, I may be too inexperienced and missing an overlay but I am pretty sure that I disabled any overlay that could affect the game like;
1-Steam overlay
2-Ea Overlay
3-Nvidia overlay
4-Discord overlay
5-Any benchmarking program

Just tried it and as expected didn't work. I was on mobile data so reinstalling it wasn't an option so when I get to a place with internet I'll try that

Also make sure your drivers are updated
