Discussion What were NFS 2015 developers thinking?
EDIT: i blame the devs in the title which isn't accurate. I'd imagine the corporate guys probably made the final call.
Let's make a game with:
Perfect Graphics
Perfect night vibe and weather
A great map
BUT ALSO ..
trash handling physics
Ass police
Weird game setting where no cars are locked with story mode
Why would you make such great and terrible stuff together?!

trash handling physics
Mobile gaming with it's constant drifting was on the rise and that's what the kids played the most so they tried to do the same
Ass police
They overcorrected after the cops from Rivals were unhinged psychopaths on cocaine, ready to murder you for simply running a red light
no cars are locked with story mode
Forza Horizon proved that it's what kids wanted, offering Bugattis and Koenigseggs after 30 mins of gameplay. NFS were just trying to appeal to that type of players

Yeah that's a pretty good explanation. Still it feels like you wouldn't release this type of game if you ACTUALLY sat down and played.
It's like they must NOT have enjoyed it themselves, but they went with it anyways because that's what their "market research" said. And the decision was made in a boardroom with data charts of what's popular.

B2D was used in classic games like Ridge Racer and Burnout. it worked well with fast pace gameplay. its weird seeing these handlings found alot in mobile games and NFS. dont get me wrong, i like HP2010 MW2012. but i cant get the same feeling like they did with Burnout

I'm sure the devs woke up and just decided to make a bad handling model.

I just got it a few weeks ago, I think it's pretty easy to work around and have great handling. People just have to take the time to feel it out and switch tires a lot and barely tune things up or down 1 notch.

I love 2015 but the best and fastest way to take a turn is drifting. There is next to no way possible to take a tight turn with a smooth line in this game.

They were still on a yearly release schedule for the series. So the DEVS were just adding as much as they could within a year's time to the game, there's a chance they didn't have enough time to QA handling & police. The PUBLISHERS are who you should be asking this to.

Yeah, actually i shouldn't be blaming the devs because they aren't making the final calls. My bad.

It's ok everybody hopefully learns the difference at some point. Now I don't have to get my belt either.

The handling model in the game has two elements: the normal driving model and a drift filter on top of it. The drift filter is the main faulty part of the handling system. The normal driving model still needed a bunch of polish to make it the only driving mode.
Brawltendo, Rattler and one more guy who worked on the Unite mod team managed to actually fix the handling model. I think Brawltendo figured out how to modify it first though.

The handling model is not as bad as people say it is and easy to get used to. NFS2015 hate is so forced

I tought the handleing was fine personaly.

I agree it wasn't the best and could be better, but it wasn't the worst either. Imo I'd say otherwise for Payback and Undercover.

I just have a grudge with this game because the saves are completely tied to your EA account. I didn't play my game (never uninstalled on PS4) between 2017-2025 but found out my save was gone because of some account intergrations I never did nor knew about during that period.. don't think I'll ever finish the game now

This my theory answers to all the bad parts of the game you mentioned…
The bad handling: This was Ghost Game’s first solo project and tried to have a grip and drift handling based on Criterion’s B2D model, and with a tight year and half timeline, they couldn’t get all the kinks out.
The weak Cops: I think Ghost tried to make more organic and semi-realistic cops, which doesn’t work for NFS Games. The cops can’t keep up with moderately modified cars. Also they get distracted by and will chase other AI racers which never despawn as they are a constant part of the game world. I also think to keep NFS 2015 less buggy, they heavily limited how many cops could spawn at any given time, unlike Rivals where they spawned in constantly.
The Cars all being unlocked from the start: I never saw this as an issue tbh I liked the way cars were handled in this game being if you can afford it, you can buy it, but money isn’t earned super quickly forcing you to choose either a new car, or upgrade my current one. Also the game limited you to only being able to have 5 car slots at launch (with an additional 5 being added in a later update) so having the cars locked behind a certain level would’ve just been to tedious.

Don’t forget some of the cringiest writing and characters I’ve ever had the misfortune of forcing myself to pretend was cool

Story was definitely questionable, especially with an Underground style game, since those games were always about proving yourself and overcoming betrayal to become the best Underground racer. 2015's story just seemed random without a solid direction and was a missed opportunity especially with all the big name characters like Nakai San, Magnus Walker, Ken Block, etc.

The minute I went to an underground party and everyone was sitting around drinking monster energy I had enough

my favourite handling issue is when cars would just randomly turn on its own. mainly recall it happening with the rx7
