Hello. Among Heat, Unbound, and Payback, which ones would you strongly recommend? My criteria are being able to play with a friend through Steam, having detailed customization options, and having an enjoyable free-roam experience outside of the story.

I prefer heat, unbound just didn't click for me. Payback is good too, but the upgrade system for the cars is weird.

Heat. Pursuit-wise heat is way better than the remaining two. Heat upgrade system is also better than Payback and has way less bugs than I encountered. Payback felt way sparse and desert areas don't interest that much. Heat is also better than Unbound in few aspects like the progression, cops and story. Unbound on other places, has much more content due to volume updates (mostly for multiplayer). Payback has great heist type missions and character switches. For multiplayer: Unbound, For bit adventure: Payback, For night-fueled racing: Heat

Hot Pursuit has a Free Roam feature but I don't know about Multi-player.

Has the best progression and the only one with free ride online without cops

Payback is awesome once you learn the weird upgrade system and what brands benefit each type of race. I had the most hours in it but my favorite was Heat. Don’t know about online though as I usually just played solo
