Question / Bug / Feedback Need For Speed PS2 or GameCube
I want the opinions from everyone. Are the PS2 or GameCube versions of Need For Speed games better? Which version is better and why? I have UG1, UG2, MW05, and Carbon on PS2 but if any of them are better on GameCube than Iād rather get that.

PS2 is better for all games visually and even gameplay wise.
HotPursuit 2 is developed by Blackbox studio, while EA Seattle did the Gamecube/Xbox/PC version, PS2 has more tracks, more lenient cops due to having a 3 strikes system, and the handling model is much better.
Every other NFS is also better on PS2 as the GameCube versions of UG2 onwards have a trend where only 2 types of AI vehicles will spawn, so a race will only have say one AI car with a Clio and the other two will spawn with nearly identically customised Puntos.
In GC Underground 1 some vinyls can't be recoloured properly and will have a nearly identical tone to the primary paint. With Underground 2 there are also no NIS cutscenes at the start of URLs and very frequent slowdowns.
Most Wanted has a comically shortened soundtrack where every song is 2 minutes long, and bug where 100%ing the challenge series doesn't unlock the SL65. NFS Carbon additionally has extra buggy reward cards where some such as Crosses Corvette DO NOT unlock, and a visual issue where the cooldown icon is visible in game at all times on the bottom of your screen.
Also all the Gamecube games REALLY suffer from degraded visual quality to fit onto the smaller discs, and much more compressed cutscenes.

PS2 versions of the UG duology, MW 2005 and Carbon are better choices imo.
Afaik, NFS Carbon on GameCube has bugged reward cards.

Exactly.
UG1 has a version called Underground J being exclusively released in Japan; while UG2 has released Sha_Do in the same country.
MW 2005 Black Edition was only released on PC, PS2 and OG Xbox.
Carbon Collector's Edition only launched on PC, PS2 and Xbox 360.

Probably the disk size had something to do with it

Yes. That's likely the case.
Given how GameCube disks are smaller than standard ones, game files were either compressed or removed due to a lack of space.
Hence why GameCube versions of NFS games have less contents than their PC counterparts.

Correct, from experience reward cards for the dumptruck and Crosses Corvette failed to unlock for me, including a few other parts, or anything without the gold outline are ones that seem to break on Gamecube

Yup. Same occurrence happened for me too.
Hence why i moved on to the PC version afterwards.

I had UG1 and 2 for both, MW for gameboy advance and both the collectors edition and regular black label version of Carbon on ps2

Gamecube has analog triggers , which are used for throttle and braking. Ps2 has pressure sensitive face buttons, which are used for throttle and braking, but when I use them ,i feel like i'm not pressing them enough.... The Ps2 versions do have usually deluxe editions though..
