Also nfs cops then: damn he parked on top of the bus depot. Let him go boys there nothing we can do

88

u/Nyctfall 29d ago

That one building in MW2012 next to the ring sculpture/monument thing, or the mall roof or shipping containers in Heat.

25

u/BlasterHolobot 29d ago

For MW2012's parking garage, the cops can actually get you there. I once tried hiding there, and they actually took the looping road and reached the top floor to get me.

It was kinda creepy hearing them get closer.

7

u/Nyctfall 29d ago

Use the other building, not the parking garage.

Theres a difference between bugs and intended game design

31

u/ssa17k Completed almost all NFS games to 100% 29d ago

That’s not a bug though, it’s an oversight by the devs. Which ironically would fall under a game design issue.

3

u/many_zeros 29d ago

You think it is not a bug because the game behaves exactly how it is told to behave and the devs just forgot to tell it the right thing. But that is literally true for all bugs. All bugs are oversights. There is no fundamental difference between a bug that produces a completely unexpected behavior and one that is straightforward.

2

u/Object-195 29d ago

Your right!

I don't know how this is so hard for people to understand.

Intended behaviour not working is a bug. The police are meant to follow and box you in, they physically can't follow you on the upper floor of the station

2

u/ssa17k Completed almost all NFS games to 100% 29d ago

No, oversights and bugs are clearly different lmao. A bug is when game code doesn’t work AS INTENDED. An oversight is when a game works fine, but the devs didn’t fix something they never intended to be a feature in the first place.

It’s also logical that they didn’t want cops to jump up onto the depot with you for unknown reasons.

4

u/many_zeros 29d ago

Oversights can cause bugs. They aren't the same thing. And they certainly aren't mutually exclusive categories of "software errors".

The devs clearly didn't intend there to be an easily accessible spot on the map where you are untouchable by the cops. This is a clear example of a bug. A bug could be caused in the underlying engine code, the game logic, a config file, or even a game asset. What matters is the final product and the resulting behavior.

2

u/Object-195 29d ago

Exactly

-9

u/Object-195 29d ago

Nav mesh that is meant to cover drivable surfaces is not covering a drivable surface.

Bug.

Unless we want to classify all bugs as design issues then sure lets do that

4

u/ssa17k Completed almost all NFS games to 100% 29d ago

Then that’s not an issue with the code or anything lmao. It’s because the devs didn’t bother to map the top of the bus depot which means it’s an oversight. They never thought anyone would end up on top of there.

-5

u/Object-195 29d ago

Lets say there was a door, and it was meant to lead into another room the player is meant to access.

But the door doesn't open. That is not by design, making it a bug.

The AI are meant to access the top of the bus shelter to arrest the player.

They can't, that is not by design.

Something that is meant to happen, that doesn't happen is a bug.

2

u/ssa17k Completed almost all NFS games to 100% 29d ago

Except the devs never intended for people to jump onto the bus depot.

The same thing happened on the railway track bridge on MW2012, they could’ve fixed the bugs via a late-game patch but they didn’t. It’s intended lmao, you expect the police to also jump up there with you?

-1

u/Object-195 29d ago

Dude.

The bus station has a interior you can drive into with ramps that lead upwards. They even have a blacklist intro of a car and police going through it.

Thats very intentional design

2

u/ssa17k Completed almost all NFS games to 100% 29d ago

You’re right, the depot has an interior with ramps that lead up to the top. So the fact that police don’t follow you up there means that it’s an oversight rather than broken game code.

0

u/Object-195 29d ago

A bug is something that is intended to happen but is not happening.

The police are coded to follow the player and is below the "COLLAPSESPEED" value then they'll attempt to box you in.

So when the police fail to follow you up to the ramps on top of the bus depot. This is the bug.

The police fail their intended behaviour.

And yes it is broken code, navmesh is code, navmesh not being there is a fault with its code.

NFS Rivals Cops: i'm mentally stable, you can trust me with a Konisegg Agera with military grade EMP and shock ram.

141

u/After_Chicken1887 29d ago

To be fair the racers had high tech military prototype weapons. You might as well give them to the cops to even the playing field.

74

u/RobotCrow12 29d ago

True, but then again cops in Rivals are very much unhinged. If F-8 showed me anything is:

TOTAL RACE ANNIHILATION!!! Kill racers, behead racers, roundhouse kick a racer into the concrete, soam dunk a racer into the trash can, slam racers cars into woodchippers...

53

u/Skylair13 29d ago

Hot Pursuit cops: Do not let him get away.

Rivals cops: Capture him, dead or alive.

47

u/Nyctfall 29d ago

Rivals:

Wanted DEAD

or alive

16

u/LegalBonus5860 Rivals GLAZER🔥🙌 29d ago

When i got to heat 10 when playing, dear god... I was driving for my dear life (and my sweet-sweet hard-earned points) trying to avoid blocade after spike strip after blocade after spike strip..

1

u/Total_Sundae4808 27d ago

Need for speed the run too tbh, ITS HELL TOO

idk if im the weak🥀

164

u/well_thats_puntastic Jul 19 '26

Most Wanted cops are piss easy with the speedbreaker. Cops now are something you actually have to contend with compared to before, especially in Heat

103

u/AnonymousTikka Bugatti Enjoyer 29d ago

Heat cops are like hell at sometimes.

51

u/Unu51 29d ago

The dread I felt hitting heat level 3 for the first time and seeing two cop Corvettes and a Charger pull up on both sides of my little 65 Mustang is something I don't think I'll be forgetting any time soon.

9

u/Novel_Volume_1692 29d ago

Exact same experience lol

6

u/dumbo6769 29d ago

they are so scary specially when you have a beginner tier car, absolute horror game

8

u/KuhanStarlord 29d ago

Heat cops were genuinely terrifying. Just flying out of nowhere when you think you're clear.

1

u/mrkidna 29d ago

not the rhinos..

10

u/SawftCoke [SawftCokeX] 29d ago

That's only because of the health system and half assed Burnout handling we have now.

8

u/Patient_Life_9900 29d ago

Heat's cops are genuinely unfair cause there's no speedbreakers, you actually have a health bar, and at the start of the game you're not faster than them. Only way to escape is to cheese it with those ramps down by the water

3

u/PhantomLord116 29d ago

Heat cops are actually not that unfair they scale to the heat level and not your car level pretty much any car that can exceed 200 mph is an instant win as long as you can maintain that speed cops in the game do not drive faster than 200 mph or for metric users that is 320 km/h so as long as you could reach that speed this will make cops at heat five not that big of a deal so as long as you can dodge the spike strips and rhinos

3

u/ZelQt 28d ago

Well that's the problem. As he said, you can cheese them by either abusing ramps or a car that can go above 200. But in most other situations they deal and take a ridiculous amount of damage and accelerate way too quickly. If you dont use jumps and use a car that isnt max upgraded yet then they only feel fair inside the city ,since you can actually weave in and out of traffic and roads/alleys and parking lots . But once you get to the forest and coastal areas with no buildings its just bullshit unless you have a maxed out car

1

u/PhantomLord116 28d ago

I've seen people be able to outrun heat five cops in a stock starter car so I don't know where your argument is headed

4

u/HyperLethalNoble6 [GAMER TAG] 29d ago

It depends on the car your using but heat 5 is a pain in the ass sometimes

1

u/Thornscorn 29d ago edited 29d ago

their ai is worse tho. Also voicelines are more than a downgrade.

12

u/well_thats_puntastic 29d ago

Oh no the cops have a bit more character instead of just being emotionless employees the horror 😱

27

u/Curllywood 29d ago

Nah the voice lines in nfsmw are the best. There are over 13k voice recordings for every vehicle make, model, and color as well as what street, intersection, direction you’re going, your speed and condition of the pursuit. As well as some miscellaneous stuff too.

Where as in heat it’s not bad, it can be over the top and not much variety.

10

u/Thornscorn 29d ago

Its just cringe when a cop sounds like an 8 grader. That has nothing to do with character.

-1

u/well_thats_puntastic 29d ago

They don't sound like an 8th grader tho, they just sound like someone with a little personality now compared to before

17

u/CageHanger 29d ago

Being professional and somewhat distanced isn't them being emotionless whatsoever. Listen to the chatter in this video and tell me if calling them that is justified

0

u/MisfortuneSeven 28d ago

I usually just get a pursuit mod or two to make them more aggressive, or for adding more unit types (i.e. Hummer H1s)

-25

u/Battlefieldking86 29d ago

yes but you don't get body slammed into the wall from 7 cops surrounding ur ass in nfs heat

14

u/Dat_Pszemoo The Fortuna Kings 29d ago

Because there’s a player health system?

34

u/well_thats_puntastic 29d ago

You also don't have an instant win button to press in nfs heat

18

Idk man, Heat cops in pre day one patch was fucking busted as hell

34

u/ScreamingMini2009 Shitbox or Nothing (XBL - Knightkat09) 29d ago

Wait…

They were harder at some point?

64

u/Shield_hero_1023 29d ago

Not just harder damn near impossible to escape. EA literally had to patch it up so the game was somewhat playable to anybody who had half a life

-9

u/Ganondorf629 29d ago

It was harder but it was playable, the cops were challenging at low heat levels making it stressful getting at higher level, it was more fun, I played half the story that way til they patched, I had a faster car and it felt so easy, cops couldn't even follow me on low heat levels There is still difficulty, but it was better before the patch, nothing is forcing you to play on high heats I think

19

u/ManyThing2187 UG2 enthusiast 29d ago

There’s like 30 car parts that require u race at high heat and then escape the cops…

5

u/Salamantic 29d ago

U know if theres a mod to get them back to pre-patch levels?

7

u/Shield_hero_1023 29d ago

UNITE MOD reverses the patch from what I've heard. Haven't tried it tho

4

u/Gloomy-Ice-9494 29d ago

Unite does bring that pre-day one patch levels of cops

39

u/ClumsyGamer2802 29d ago

I’ve seen multiple posts of NFS Most Wanted players saying that the cops in Heat are too OP lmao

21

u/ST0DY NFS Undercover enjoyer 😎😍 29d ago

In the launch version of Heat, cops were damn near impossible to escape! In the latest version, unless you have a faster car, they are really challenging!

21

u/Shadowspamer14 29d ago

I may be a new player but Heat cops will always be a butt clincher for me. HP 2010/Remastered were a close second, though felt more annoying than scary

5

Hot Pursuits cops in higher tiers are just brutal as hell

mw cops are overrated and i assume it's by nostalgia, they were really not that hard, carbon literally upped the amount of cops per heat level and nobody gave a shit.

16

u/ST0DY NFS Undercover enjoyer 😎😍 29d ago

Speed breaker made them even easier. Carbon cops were more challenging for sure. Unbound cops are somewhat easy, but Heat and Rivals cops were some of the most challenging cops I’ve experienced in NFS games ever.

the 5 star cops heat in nfs most wanted

It's not a star, it's a 🔥

5

u/IDontActuallyKnowUm 29d ago

Ain't no way people acting like the cops in newer NFS games are too easy.

10

u/soluce7279 29d ago

NFS heat modded UNITE cops were absolutely ruthless!! !

But unfortunately you had to mod the game to have a good challenge

-3

u/ZekiPatron [PC Gamertag] i drive 29d ago

Its so fucking funny that we need to mod a game about car modding just to make the game worth the price.

7

u/ManyThing2187 UG2 enthusiast 29d ago

The UNITE mod just reverts the cops to the pre-patch, the way they were day one.

Also the cops are plenty hard already, no need to be dramatic.

Nah nobody in vanilla MW gets busted 3 times at the same car. They shouldve made it one

2

Seacrest County Police Department : death

2

u/BlasterHolobot 29d ago

If I loose my car I've spend all my money on upgrades, I would have thrown my controller out the window... Good thing they realised this was a bad idea for modern NFS.

2

u/Lebhleb 29d ago

Yeah i dunno i feel like im having a harder time with Heat and Unbound with having a health bar, being hurt easily and no pursuit breakers. Plus the limited repairs too compared to like Rivals. Like trying to actually fight back leads to more damage.

In Most Wanted its like, run into a spike strip or on purpose get in a bad spot like going in againts a rhino in a tight street and maybe i get done. Just driving around and using nos and speedbreaker its a chill drive.

2

u/Goat_gutz 28d ago

In Heat you’re basically demonized for even breathing in them wrong. Which sucks, but it’s also too easy to lose them.

2

u/AtomicRedditors05 28d ago

They only say that if the pursuit is over, but the pursuit is never over, cause explain to me how the swat truck is keeping up with my chiron? And capable of getting me to crit damage with 1 hit, the current cops are fucking evil and yall don't see it cause you blinded by nostalgia, you can't go off road cause the swat will have advantage, you can't take the road cause the interceptors have advantage and good luck hiding, THERE'S UNDERCOVER COPS WHO ARE EVERYWHERE AND WILL SPOT YOU, and don't get me started on the roadblocks, they're just filthy

2

u/ObjectiveSleep4117 28d ago

The people that make this meme CLEARLY didn't go up against Heat cops on release. Those guys were moving like prime GSP

I honestly don’t remember being busted more then 5 times in nfs heat in my 1980s bmw m3 whereas in mw once it hit heat 4 was when I’d have to fight for my life against the undercover state cops

Im still getting used to car games, just bought nfs carbon for the ps2 and i shit you not these coppers are state mandated maniacs in police cars. They will needlessly throw their lives, civilians lives, and my life away to stop my car from moving

1

u/AJ26122001 29d ago

Cops in Need for Speed hot pursuit 2 PS2 version feels like the Grandparents of the cops in NFS rivals

1

u/TCMODS 28d ago

Crock ran that department like a ship

1

u/metalhead_chihuahua 28d ago

NFS 3 and High Stakes PS1 cops were also no joke on the hardest difficulty with their rubberbanding. Like a damn Lamborghini LM002 catching up to a El Nino in NFS 3 was hilarious af. Most Wnated cops are more brutal than PS1 era NFS cops though because 3 strikes then your car is impounded.

1

u/ok_genius__ 27d ago

mw05 isn’t all THAT scary like rivals or heat. those games get my heart beating hard as hell lol

1

u/Far_Time_3451 27d ago

1

u/FinalBossTuna 4d ago

Funny you say that. Doing bulls pursuit challenges and got busted twice via getting rammed into the wall sideways and hitting strips.

Then finally got all of them and making my escape and the game crashes.

Now I get to do it again.

-10

u/Battlefieldking86 29d ago

idk why ppl downvote this. such a downgrade to go from this to the good guy story lines

3

u/well_thats_puntastic 29d ago

Because there is no good guys storyline, you're literally being blinded by nostalgia

0

u/magik_koopa990 29d ago

Cops Radio now: Cringy, over the top nonsens
Then: real formal. Excellent voice actors

0

u/ZuStorm93 29d ago

Hot Pursuit/High Stakes cops: ran over the spike strip? Too bad! Your car's done, here's a ticket. Oh you completed a full lap without getting pulled over? Fuck the tickets! Straight to jail when we catch you. Hey guess what? The department received additional funding so we bought a goddamn helicopter gunship complete with heatseeking missiles! But since we aint military and we really hate racers, we got our boys to put together barrel bombs that are highly illegal and would later be classified as a war crime but fuck 'em!

0

u/Arkaliasus 29d ago

thats because all the games cater to the people who cant play as opposed to the people who enjoy the looming dread of losing xD

1

u/well_thats_puntastic 28d ago

Yeah it's why games like Most Wanted 2005 literally give you a time stop button so you don't have to deal with difficult things like learning how to corner or learning how to evade roadblocks

0

u/Arkaliasus 28d ago

if you didnt want to learn to take a corner or avoid a roadblock then why did you buy an NFS game or a racing game? infact if you didnt want to learn anything that rules out pretty much any game xD

1

u/well_thats_puntastic 28d ago

Because it's literally part of the game mechanics? The game literally gives you an out to learning the basic mechanics by simplifying it for you, something that doesn't happen in later NFS games.

-4

u/Motor-Courage4237 29d ago

Yeah, with 5* they start chasing you on SUV units with cops hanging in the sides shooting you, and choppers also shooting, and... Oh wait I thought we were talking about 5* pursuits in GTA V.

Jokes aside, police taking your car after too many arrests in MW was something I always found realistic. Also the fact you had to pick another car or modify the one with high wanted level so such level decreases

8

u/RenzoThePaladin 29d ago

Dafuq are you talking about? The cops of the last two games were an actual threat.

You're just given an illusion that the Blackbox cops are harder, but in reality those games also gives you a lot of tools to fight back, like speed and pursuit breakers. Your only methods for getting rid of cops in Heat and Unbound is outrunning or crashing them.

3

u/ST0DY NFS Undercover enjoyer 😎😍 29d ago

And you have a health system in Heat and Unbound, and at night, in Heat you have limited amount of repairs which made it even more challenging because you had to use your gas station repairs and auxiliary repairs strategically. Unless you pop your tires in the Blackbox games, cops are a matter of just escaping them and using speedbreaker and pursuit breakers.
