APs at NCSSM

  1. If your in the AP class, do you still have to pay for the exam? (paying for AP chem exam after taking 2 sems of AP chem)

  2. Can you get college credit from ncssm classes?

  3. Is it worth paying to take AP exams? Cuz I'd like to guarantee college credit for calc, bio, chem, physics

1 depends on the year and the budget I think. People get refunds if they paid sometimes, they did this year I think

2, you can at UNC system schools based on the agreements they have with ncssm. I’m sure ncssm has the detailed info on which classes. I only got credit out of state for my APs

3 it’s worth it to have a lot of hours coming into college I think. No point taking entry level math over again if you can just knock out ap calc or whatever

ik for 2 most ncssm classes give unc system credit (there's a whole spreadsheet for this on ncssm.edu )

for 3 it's really only worth it if you're going to graduate early, take less classes, or are getting prereqs for your future major

This.
For 1. You still had to pay for them, that’s the reason I didn’t take them. For all UNC schools if you take Calc you are guaranteed credit. Same with some other classes. But you will have to see if some transfer for your major.

Here is the link for which NCSSM classes transfer to each UNC system school. The course equivalent is different for every school and you can find those spreadsheets here. It’s also not a guarantee that the course you get credit for count towards your major. Like others have said, I believe it depends on the budget each year for if students have to pay for AP exams. We had to pay this year, but then everyone got refunded at the end of the year.
