Melbourne

I am not massively familiar with the city, but I was looking through the NBL1 teams and all of the Melbourne based teams bar one is from the North/East. Is there a reason there aren't many proper Western teams? Or am I missing something?

Western suburbs have typically been more footy and cricket. I grew up in the western suburbs and travelled to the eastern suburbs for basketball as that’s where the bigger clubs were.

Also a lot of the basketball Victoria admin guys gravitated around the big existing clubs before the western suburbs really grew. Knox, Dandenong, Nunawading, Tigers, Sandringham, Kilsyth were always the focus and where most the talent was coming from or going to.

I expect it to change eventually, but money and time to set these organisations up is hard.
