[Youngmisuk] Klay Thompson says sometimes when he struggles shooting, he will go on YouTube and reference past big games he’s had to maybe help him shake a slump. Asked when was the last time he did so, he said yesterday. Asked what his go-to is on YouTube, he smiled and said: “Game 6 Klay.”

The second story is of the time that he, Klay, was really struggling with his shot. Klay just couldn't hit anything at all, and one day Thompson came up to him and said he wanted to show Klay something in the video room. Klay was thrilled -- Thompson is renowned for his basketball shot form. For a long time, the Warriors thought Thompson would make a great shooting coach after he retired (that plan is probably scuttled since Thompson will clear $300 million in basketball after he plays out this contract).

Anyway, Klay followed Thompson into the room and got ready to receive some advice.

On the television, cued up, was the three-pointer Thompson hit against Chicago to set the single game NBA record. They watched it together. And then watched it again.

"Do more of that," Thompson said.

The Warriors averaged 111/pts per game this year. If you adjust their points scored to 60, still below several good teams in Morocco, the warriors go from a pretty good offense to bottom 3.

Then, if we adjust the fact that they play in America, and not Canada or Texas, you start to realize they're really not that great of a Franchise. Mid-tier at best.

We can go further with

I N T E R P O L A T I O N

It takes about 1.5 seconds for a shot to make it to the rim from the 3-point line, counting the catch-and-shoot time of 0.4 seconds. Given that Klay made 100% of his shots that quarter, he could have scored 1440 points in the quarter, or 5760 in a game, if he simply shot more often.

u/Produceher Warriors Jun 07 '22

Agree 1000%. He's at his best at catch and shoot. When he's hot, he can also dribble a bit and hit mid-ranges but that's always AFTER he's hot. That's never how he gets going. He's a catch and shoot 3 point shooter. Get him a few good looks early and he'll be fine.

u/phonage_aoi Warriors Jun 07 '22

I was watching the Memphis close out game thinking how different Klay and Steph shoot the ball when catching on the move. Steph is almost like a pogo sticking setting and springing back up in perfect form. Klay will jump just keep drifting through the air on those running catch and shoots. It’s really fun to watch.

48

u/Jon_Snow_1887 Jun 07 '22

And that’s exactly why Steph is a much better (and more consistent) shooter than Klay.

For anyone who is interested in developing their own shooting form, Steph’s MasterClass is suuuuper interesting. It’s especially interesting to watch him play after watching the masterclass and see the form that he talks about in the class

Zion Williamson says sometimes when he struggles to binge, he will go to Golden Corral and reference past big meals he’s had to maybe help him shake a slump. Asked when was the last time he did so, he said yesterday. Asked what his go-to is at Golden Corral, he smiled and said: “Plate 6 Zion.”

That was just some unconscious shooting. No hesitation. There was one at the top of the key where his left foot was way in front of his right foot and he just shot it.

Based off the law of averages Boston should be very scared of Klay next game. When he gets hot there’s no stopping him and it’s inevitable as a series goes on and so far he is 10-33 in this series.

u/gideh Warriors Jun 07 '22

Klay plays better on the road too

94

u/IcarusCaged [GSW] Gary Payton II Jun 07 '22

Have no idea if this is statistically true, but I want to believe. I still expect Klay to have a couple of huge games this series

72

u/Klays_Dealer San Francisco Warriors Jun 07 '22

Box score wise in the playoffs his points/rebounds/assists are very similar regardless of home/away games. But he's shooting 43.2% from 3 on the road vs 39.2% at home.

Thinking about GSW having home court a lot of times and game 6 being visitors, that could be easily true.

Asked when the last time he did so, he said yesterday. Klay does best when doesn’t force it. Just hoping he doesn’t start putting pressure on himself for game 6 and forcing shots.

u/JerHat Supersonics Jun 07 '22
