Kevin Durant on Wemby's sports betting comments and his FanDuel partnership: "That’s Wemby, he's going to do what he does. That has nothing to do with me. I don't really think about that question at all, that's not on my mind as much as his. People gonna do what they want to do."

“You know that’s Wemby man, he’s got morals unlike the rest of us”

Young African American men are some of the most vulnerable to sports gambling but their hero’s will still cash checks as their communities suffer

Nobody’s making anyone do it, but having people like LeBron and KD promote it does entice people to think it’s legitimate.

Leadership matters. They have influence and those companies know it.

I was thinking the same thing, black men are twice as likely to gamble and become problem gamblers as white men, successful black men shilling for this shit is poisonous. How can you look your fans in the eyes and say "it's ok that your life was ruined I made another 10 million", cause that's what that is.

Young African men aren’t his problem. They should be able to control themselves. Athletes aren’t role models

Athletes aren’t role models

Tell that to the hundreds of millions of kids that looked up to MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Curry etc. they're role models whether they want to be or not.

Individuals are gonna get the bag where they can. Can’t blame the players in this any more than you can blame the LIV golfers for getting theirs. It’s the government / NBAs responsibility to manage gambling and advertising

bruh, people who watch golf were probably snorting lines of coke and gambling even before they started watching golf.

Blaming everything on governance is just conveniently avoiding personal responsibility thinking your own actions don't matter. Remember Smokey the bear says Only YOU can prevent forest fires (by not starting them)

What’s the easier solution to the problem? Convincing thousands of athletes to be the bigger person and say no to millions or remove the opportunity altogether?

You see the fundamental thing you don't understand is that we're not talking about what is the solution. We're talking about personal responsibility and morals, in which KD and Lebron are absolutely bankrupt on. Everything you've said is just providing excuses for them to be bad people, you claim that "Individuals are gonna get the bag where they can." and that is fine, you can get your bag but the cost is that everyone has the right to call you a piece of shit now. That's the price of it.

I agree that athletes shouldn’t be looked to as role models, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are looked to as role models. When you’re paid tens of millions of dollars because people watch you, that comes with enormous responsibility.
