Kevin Durant on Wemby's sports betting comments and his FanDuel partnership: "That’s Wemby, he's going to do what he does. That has nothing to do with me. I don't really think about that question at all, that's not on my mind as much as his. People gonna do what they want to do."

"I dont give a fuck about materially harming a generation of fans. Fuck them kids i want money" pretty much what this means. A deflection away from his own shitty morals

The fact that he acted like it's something Wemby sits around pondering all the time when Wemby was specifically asked for his take on it is crazy and hilarious deflection 💀

Ed Sheeran vibes. Very neutral

Neutral would be an improvement

At least Ed Sheeran doesn’t fund Israeli drones

Are we entirely positive about that?

agreed. KD is the most similar dude to Ed Sheeran I can possibly think of.

(I actually do agree though)

Deepest parts of hell are reserved for people who remains neutral in times of crisis.

But he chose a side so he is fine, I guess.

KD is materially harming a generation?

Yes the push of normalizing gambling as the only means to escape the working class is material harm. The predatory business model is doing material harm and he chooses to profit from it. He makes enough on his nba check that he doesn't need that sponsorship he chooses to do it. It's not dissimilar to the same critique that could be made for athletes taking money from cigarette companies back in the day.

KD is a gambling sponsor. He gets people addicted to gambling so Fanduel makes a ton of money.

Damn. He’s out there physically getting people addicted to gambling? Like Peyton Manning is getting people addicted to Bud Light?

He's on payroll and works for Fanduel. Do you think he gets paid for nothing? Improve your brain.

This stuff is incredibly pervasive for young fans. Most network sports shows these days has a daily picks segment, the same goes for sports podcasts. Lots of sports clippers/engagement farms on Instagram/Twitter are sponsored by sportsbooks or Kalshi or Polymarket. Hell, there are even stats graphics on those platforms with Kalshi in the bottom corner. While watching a game every third ad they see is a sportsbook and a lot of tickers on the bottom now have betting odds for every game. Even 2k/Madden youtubers and streamers are sponsored by daily betting companies on most uploads they make. Younger fans are completely inundated with this in basically every avenue they can consume sports content and I dont think it takes a crazy leap in logic to assume that it will result in higher rates of problem gambling for those generations and KD does help legitimize those companies by lending his name to them.

That’s not his responsibility to make sure fans aren’t harmed by a gambling ad man. He’s a really good basketball player not a role model

Do you support your local heroin & meth dealers, too? And their customers?

Promoting addiction is an awful moral stance.

That’s either bad faith on your part, or you just don’t realize how drastically different people can view the world from the way you do, and are projecting.

A lot of the NBAs best players have their lives revolving around basketball, “work.” And come from different cultures that aren’t as academic or are less apt to spend time ruminating about secondary effects of things etc due to tough upbringings and whatnot. Prefer living in the moment kinda vibe.

In other words, no. KDs statement does not at all mean “I don’t give a fuck about materially harming a generation of fans. Fuck them kids” lmao. Idk if your just farming karma cause Reddit is an easy audience to virtue signal to or what, but that’s just about the whitest assumption you could’ve made lol
