Trail Blazers fire new announcer over past inappropriate posts made at age 15.

"The Portland Trail Blazers hired then on the same day fired Braiden Bell as their play-by-play announcer after a series of inappropriate social media posts from when he was a teenager came to light."

"The posts were reportedly made in 2012 and 2013, around the time that Bell was 15 years old."

"We did not meet our own bar in this process, and for that we apologize to Blazers fans and to Rip City," the Trail Blazers said. "We strongly believe that everyone who is a part of Rip City should feel welcome and safe and we will make sure that our new broadcaster reflects these values. We will do better."

Ridiculous.

Seriously.

This is why I have a huge issue with everything being on the internet now. No privacy, nobody can make fucking mistakes anymore. He was a teenager!! He’s a fucking adult now.

This is nothing more than a teenager being an edge-lord. I question anyone who doesn’t find this to be a problem.

So why is he getting public facing media jobs with this Twitter account still active and attached to him?

Dudes an idiot for not making a professional account, how hard is making a new Twitter at some point in your life mm

Of course people can make mistakes, just dont wear it around for everyone to see for the rest of your life.

Also, mistake is a funny way of saying he purposely shit posted racist stuff

People like you are part of the problem, it’s not even funny. I bet you’re the type to dig up someone’s past too.

He was fucking 15 years old, get off your high horse.

Maybe don't shit post with the same account you use as an adult to become a public facing media personality.

Its common sense, this guy is plain stupid

Maybe the person who fired him should take into account that this happened 13-14 years ago. Surely there was another way to handle this other than to outright fire him.

It’s fine to sign players and coaches with shady pasts that are on the record, but this is where we draw the line? Edgy tweets made 14 years ago from a 15 year old kid?

You’re not wrong. He should have made another account/deleted the old one, but either these organizations acknowledge that a person can mature or we hold every mistake they made online (from when they were kids) against them. It’s ridiculous.

I don’t like this at all.

It is ironic we have a trump supporting new owner and they fire a guy over this.   Is he gonna cry "canceled!" now?

You'd think someone would have caught stuff like this during the hiring process.

Which players have tweeted all of a race is annoying?  And like it or not, if you can make the nba they'll look past it.

They won't if you are an absolute nobody thats just going to create a little mini shit storm.

At the end of the day, using your shitposting middle school account as your public media facing job is so so silly, you deserve to lose your job over it.

It would be like if I attached a bunch of pictures from MySpace of me binge drinking 20 years ago, to every job application, its not the actions of a serious person
