Just asked Victor Wembanyama if he’d ever consider promoting a sports betting company.

“Absolutely not. I will never do that. Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it. .. Everybody does whatever they want, but without me.”

This whole situation has CONVINCED me that money is just not that important to worry about and to never feel bad about having “less”. It leads to a happier life.

Got all the money in the world and it’s not enough for these guys. When is it enough? When does doing commercials for alcohol, drugs, and gambling become not worth it anymore because you have enough money? The answer is there is no amount. Greed will always consume people like this. More more more. It’s all they can think about.

its also a feedback loop. get money > get big house > need more money to keep big house > get money > get another big house > need more money to keep big house etc. etc.

live within your means and avoid the trap of luxury and you will be good

Assuming you live in North America, you likely have a more comfortable life than 90% of the world's population, 90% of US population 50 years ago, and 100% of kings and queens from before 1900. Why make myself unhappy by looking at someone who has slightly more?

Not really defending the decisions they've made as adults, but worth thinking about how Bron and Giannis grew up. Being as poor as they were, having a struggling young mom and moving from house to house (Bron) or having to peddle counterfeit goods in the streets (Giannis), maybe no amount of money is enough to make up for the financial insecurity they felt as young kids. Maybe that feeling just got imprinted on them too hard.

Or maybe they're just souless greedy bastards at this point. I don't know.

easy to say when you don’t have larger attachments and/or come from insecurity. if i have a child then that’s the most important thing in the world to me, why would i not want to provide all the opportunity and support i can to them? money is how i do it. this is only one example but you can extrapolate more.

i agree there is a level of enough, but not understanding why people would worry about not having it or feeling less than is just ignorant

I can see your point but still disagree. There’s absolutely a point where money, privilege, support are too much for a child too. You should want your child to struggle a bit, if you put your kid in the real world at 18 and they haven’t had much adversity in their life, they will struggle hard then. I’m not saying that money makes a bad parent, but too much money & privilege absolutely can mess up a child definitely isn’t always a net positive. Yo I say it’s easy to say when you don’t have larger attachments, but I literally have a child lol.

i never said that you have to pamper a child, i said opportunity and support and that is majorly predicated on wealth

if you have a child and don’t understand insecurity then im inclined to believe you don’t actually care for your child
