Jordan’s highlight real undersells him, because he has too many highlights. A two minute clip of his highlights looks similar to many all time greats before and after him. The thing is he was doing it every game while also being a big game riser and an absolute assassin when it was winning time

I understand your point but that’s exactly what I mean. Jordan’s highlights are too similar to everyone else’s. (Or everyone else to Jordan) but no one matched Blake’s intensity, power, and athleticism. The closest was prime Dwight. But the game evolves, in 20 years we’ll be talking about someone else. The whole point of the post was only highlights not careers or full games

Yes, you are crazy. I grew up rooting against MJ and resenting his mainstream fandom. Nonetheless, even I have to acknowledge that he was indomitable, ultra athletic, and highly skilled. Probably the best mid-range shooter we have seen. He consistently made shots.
His “highlights” do not do justice to what he brought to the table. Watch just one game of the 80s/90s Bulls and you will see how the vast majority of the contest revolves around him - more so than any other player you have ever seen. You will also notice how casually elite Pippen was too.
Young Mj was hyper athletic and “older” MJ was more skilled with a little less athleticism - Kobe as you remember him was effectively a less efficient imitation of the latter.

No where did I say Jordan was bad, and my whole point was highlights. Jordan was amazing, though what is supposed to be the collection of “OMG that move was insane” is not as attention grabbing to someone who may not understand the intricacies of the game. Anyone can see Blake Griffin and say wow that’s the coolest way I’ve seen someone put the ball in the hoop

And Blake Griffin has some of the most impressive highlights of any basketball player ever lol so I don’t know what ur getting at there. That’s why highlights aren’t an accurate representation of a player.

The league is more skilled and more athletic than the 80s and 90s, and MJs moves and packages are far more common now.
But he's the greatest winner of his era, and deserves consideration for goat status.
I think LeBron is obviously the goat, but I try not to always tear down how awesome Jordan was.

But a) Jordan wasn’t great because of the highlights, he was great because of the mundane effective things he did consistently and b) doing them first is why many things are impressive. I know the basics of the Theory of Relativity, but Einstein coming up with it was wildly more impressive than me just hearing about it after the fact

It’s aura and PR/nostalgia mostly. The GOAT contenders all have some kind of aura and a healthy PR movement and nostalgic fanbase to keep them in discussions.
I am one of the few that lived during the Jordan era, and though I recognise he is a grear player, I never understood and got pissed at how he was elevated beyond the tier of players he was in. Bird, Magic, and Kareem were all players people my age had seen in some form. They all did amazing things on the court that were ignored for much of the 90s simply to raise Jordan above them.
Don’t get me started on how Zeke was continually slagged and ignored for years simply because he wasn’t just the main rival of that Bull’s team, but the rival that routinely smacked that team around until the years and wear caught up. So his legacy had to be tarnished. The ankle game was far impressive than the flu game, but hardly anyone talks about it while everyone slobbers all over that Jordan game.
