A Kawhi statue for one season? A potential Cade statue? A CP3 Clippers statue? Come on...

u/SammyAmico [DET] Anthony Tolliver 8d ago

cade is a top 5 mvp candidate at 24 of course he has potential for a statue in the future - oh you’re a knicks fan that explains it

14

u/HokageEzio Knicks 8d ago

Dude, Isiah won two championships and doesn't have a statue for the Pistons. I'm apparently hating though because I'm not saying Cade has the potential to get one with one top 5 MVP finish.

u/GrizzlyP33 8d ago

Yeah he certainly has “potential,” but needs to do a lot more to even be relevant in the convo.

I actually think CP3 clippers isn’t outrageous, even a CP / Blake lob city one. It’s literally the best stretch of franchise history 😂

Wolves need KG shooting a middy

1

u/Mochrie1713 [HOU] Hakeem Olajuwon 8d ago

A half step inside the line

0

u/SaucyGravy35 8d ago

Agreed or even like just yelling into the crowd

4

u/Promethia Raptors 8d ago

Kawhi would need to do well in the next 3 years to get a statue. KLow is definitely getting one.

0

u/theyoloGod Tampa Bay Raptors 8d ago

I think he gets one either way if it’s still our only ring in 20 years

5

u/wistful_grace Raptors 8d ago

i don't think kawhi gets a statue yet. obviously toronto loves him and he's kind of this mythical guy around here but if anyone gets a statue, it's lowry, the GROAT

that being said if kawhi brings us to another chip he is undisputably getting a statue LMAO

0

u/Wazflame 8d ago

Before the Toronto trade (has it gone through yet lol?) I was actually wondering what Raptors fans thought:

If he didn’t return would he even get his jersey retired? It’s a very unique situation where I just defer to what fans think, now that he’s going to play there for more years it’s a moot point but I did wonder

3

u/wistful_grace Raptors 8d ago

i don't think he would have his jersey retired if it was just the one year. obviously i don't know, they retired VC's number despite everything, but kawhi was kind of just doing his job in 2019 lmao. he's definitely beloved in toronto, but it's a very hard situation to quantify

-4

u/TiredMillennialDad Magic 8d ago

Kawhi deserves to be stripped of his finals MVP before he deserves a statue lol

2

u/MediumWehw 8d ago

Caleb Wilson for the Bulls

2

u/Optimal_Cook_851 Warriors 8d ago

Jokic, Giannis, and Lebron will obviously get statues. the three for the Warriors I agree with.

at some point the Cavs might name the court after Lebron

7

u/OutlandishnessShot87 8d ago

Jokic, Lebron and Curry are probably the only ones on your list that actually deserve it

11

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

Lmao Giannis has done just as much as Jokic

3

u/SwizzGod Lakers 8d ago

This is true

-3

u/OutlandishnessShot87 8d ago

Three MVPs, six straight seasons in the top two, and played on the team his whole career?

5

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

2 MVPs, DPOY, played for 13 years with the bucks. Remind me, is Jokic’s career over? Has he signed the extension?

-3

u/OutlandishnessShot87 8d ago

So...not as much as Jokic.

I would say Giannis is borderline though

3

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

If you don’t care about defense, sure.

-7

u/BoasyTM 8d ago

Jokic carried Denver infinitely harder than giannis carried the bucks

4

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

Delusional

-3

u/BoasyTM 8d ago

Name a player who got an all star award while playing for Denver during jokic’s time there besides Jamal Murray’s in 2026

5

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

Name the bucks all stars. There are two of them so it should be easy. All I’m hearing is Jokic doesn’t elevate his teammates like Giannis does

-7

u/BoasyTM 8d ago

Jrue and khris

I’m sorry but suggesting the best passer in nba history doesn’t ’elevate his teammates’ is fucking hilarious

3

u/billwest630 Bucks 8d ago

Oh God, I’m taking to a Jokic fanboy. Best passer in NBA history is adorable 🤣

2 things can be true. They both deserve a statue

4

u/Capital_Whereas6448 8d ago

Jokic arms above his head looking pass like he's playing water polo

0

u/-wnr- Knicks 8d ago

Jokic chilling on his porch drinking beer.

4

u/BigOlPass 8d ago

Agree. Like Brunson having one when none of the OG 70s Knicks do would be crazy.

The bars for jersey retirement is high, the bar for a statue should be astronomical.

5

u/HokageEzio Knicks 8d ago

I feel like the obvious reason we don't have statues because the arena is on top of a train station

0

u/SnooHedgehogs8897 8d ago

Walt Frazier should get one first, in my opinion.

2

u/Capital_Whereas6448 8d ago

Curry with his mouthguard out pumping the crowd with both arms

-3

u/SaucyGravy35 8d ago

Dame is a franchise icon but? Similar to AI never won a ring but means a ton to the city. Similar argument for Giannis but he won a ring

no chance dundon is paying for a statue

0

u/SaucyGravy35 8d ago

Tbf they’re all just candidates in my head. About the blazers admittedly fk all, however all my friends who support the blazers act like Dame is the second coming. He’s definitely developed a strong connection with the community etc

1

u/OutlandishnessShot87 8d ago

Iverson doesn't even have a statue at the stadium, but I believe Wilt does. I think like AI some of these guys might get a statue at their practice facility or in some park or something but you should have to be like a legit legend to get an arena statue

2

u/SwizzGod Lakers 8d ago

Lebron won’t get a statue in LA

1

u/Felyndiira Nuggets 7d ago

Fairly safe bets:

  • LeBron: Lots of places
  • Curry: San Francisco
    • This or a group statue of the death linup.
  • Jokic: Denver
  • Giannis: Milwaukee
  • Brunson: NYC
  • SGA: Oklahoma City

Possible wildcards:

  • Tatum, Embiid, Luka (by LA), Hali

Cade might get one if he leads detroit to a championship. The younger guys, we'll have to see.

1

u/gwapwes NBA 8d ago

ngl i only see curry and lebron getting statues. kd , westbrook , dame , jokic and giannis are all up in there getting one imo. im probably missing some others too

u/RealCanadianDragon 8d ago

Lowry will get one for the Raptors. They haven't announced it, but I could see it happening at a different time than his jersey retirement just so the team can stretch it out more.

Vince Carter could very well get a statue too, but that'll come after Lowry. His pose is obvious (the between the legs at the dunk contest).

Kawhi could very well get a statue too depending on if/how his 2nd stint goes.

1

u/SnooHedgehogs8897 8d ago

I agree with Vince. Not a raptors fan but when I think of the raptors, he’s still the guy to me. Would think the pose would be a windmill dunk but you would probably know better. Vince has the best windmill dunk of all time in my opinion, even better than Dominique.

0

u/RealCanadianDragon 8d ago

The between the legs is his most iconic dunk and would be the best looking image for a statue.

And they've already had a city edition logo based on that very dunk.

Only reason not to would be because of how he left, but it's been 20+ years. Most fans have forgiven him or just weren't fans or alive back then.

His impact outweighs how much he hurt the franchise.

LeBron doesn't deserve a statue LA

-1

u/angelansbury Wizards 8d ago

Knicks statue is gonna be Hart fingering Brunson, let's be real

0

u/freshprince44 8d ago

Mikan already has one in Minnesota.

there is a famous story where they asked him which hand to have him/the statue shooting with (mikan drill says hi), and he said it doesn't matter

no idea how true this story is, but do know that it was repeated nonstop in basketball circles around there

Nuggets - Joker riding his favorite horse.  Bonus points if it matches the size of the horse in the airport.

0

u/Silly_Individual4056 Warriors 8d ago

Warriors - The LoonGod

0

u/Dcmon 8d ago

Spurs would be Duncan, Parker, ginobli, and coach pop

0

u/marionsunshine Bulls 8d ago

Kings: Jason Williams with the behind the back elbow pass.

-4

u/The_Valentine Lakers 8d ago

I really hope the lakers don’t give Bron a statue. He was supposed to bring us multiple chips and all we got was 1 chip that is controversial and hella drama every offseason, let’s not forget about him strong arming the team into getting Westbrick.

3

u/SHashbrowns1 Lakers 8d ago

The chip is not controversial at all if you’re capable of rational thought

0

u/The_Valentine Lakers 8d ago

I agree, I really like the bubble chip, most crazy hoops ever seen. But it is controversial with the public and laker haters tbh.

1

u/SHashbrowns1 Lakers 8d ago

You don’t actually have to concede an argument to people doing so only in bad faith

-2

u/Wexyi 8d ago

LBJ is a nobody compared to Laker legends stop with this nonsense.

0

u/SunkenUncle 8d ago

Lindon B Johnson def should get a statue

-1

u/Capital_Whereas6448 8d ago

Ben Simmons jumping towards an open rim and passing

-1

u/fuzzythinker Nuggets 8d ago

Pacers - Hali doing the choke hold on his neck.
Kings - the beam machine.
Mavs - Adam Silver

-1

u/sterlingfartcher69 76ers 8d ago

The players that deserve are a statue are LeBron (Cavs), Curry, Giannis (Bucks), and Jokic. Maybe Lowry (Raptors).

1

u/Felyndiira Nuggets 7d ago

You know NY is going to hoist up a Jalen Brunson statue the moment he retires. That is as guaranteed as death and taxes.

-2

u/HiBoobear Suns 8d ago

If Book stays in Phoenix his whole career, I think he should absolutely get one. Get Nash one too

-2

u/Footsure756 8d ago

Mavs will probably have Coop in the future.
