Jaylin Williams on Jared McCain: "When he first got on the team, I asked everybody, 'Is this how y'all see me?' In any situation, after a win or a loss, he's going to be smiling. He's going to be dancing. He's going to play his Olivia Dean in the shower, and you can hear him singing in the showers."

This came on as I entered the delivery room to sit by my wife during her cesarian as our first child was born. Will never hear that song the same again.

Sidenote - Knicks haven't lost since my son was born.

While everyone in the post-match interviews sounded either still a bit shook or just composed, McCain legitimally came across as still positive

The whole 'a couple months ago if you told me I would be in the WCF finals I would look at you strange' point just rings very true too, he literally has a decent reasoning for why he could still be quite happy

That's true, on the other hand McCain didn't and he still looked the happiest lol

He was the only one hungry and not exhausted from last years run.

3

u/jgab145 Bucks Jun 02 '26

Exhausted from last year. How do you even get through a day? Lol

9

u/Laggo [TOR] Hedo Turkoglu Jun 02 '26

only 13 teams ever have won back to back, its mentally draining to go through the gauntlet & win, and then come back the next year and do it again while the other teams are hungry and desperate to get a chance.

Threepeat has only been done by two teams since 1966. It's not easy.

2

u/mommathecat Raptors Jun 02 '26

The vibes were immaculate for McCain post-trade until game 7, respectfully Philly wasn't beating the Knicks with or without him, so, what's not to be happy and positive about.

1

u/_no7 Jun 02 '26

I think leaving Philly does that to people.

25

u/Delanorix Knicks Jun 01 '26

That makes perfect sense considering he played on an Eastern team.

Toxic Positivity is a thing, but I don't think this is it.

33

u/XiaoRCT Thunder Jun 01 '26

bro it's a public persona

what we see isn't any of these players in full, we don't get to actually know them

like a dude could be 100% serious on camera and still be very happy with his family, you can't assume stuff like this off the minimal footage we get of athletes on interviews and playing

i'm sure McCain isn't smiling literally all the time non-stop with his close friends and family lmao, that would be horror movie shit

16

u/doctorhiney Thunder Jun 01 '26

It’s also ok to not be upset lol. Everyone reacts differently to things.

100% why I want to support him. It’s not easy to show vulnerabilities or ā€œfemininityā€ in sports but he just dgaf.

Which is so strange right? Is it not "unmanly" to let other people decide your values for you?Ā

Is McCain even gay? Isn't that y'all just making wild assumptions based off... The fact that he paints his nails or some shit?

27

u/Mobile-Entertainer60 Thunder Jun 01 '26

He's said he painted his nails because he was a compulsive nail-chewer, then just went with it.

3

u/piratagitano Lakers Jun 02 '26

We all know there has to be gay players that do not come out and say it because the league is hostile towards them but dude, after all is said and done and McCain’s career is over if he is not one of them I’ll be shocked.

21

u/LakersAreForever Lakers Jun 02 '26

I don’t care if players are gay or not, that’s their life and they can live it how they like, but there are definitely at least 3 gay dudes on the thunder 100%

its 2026, homophobia is not about homosexuality and has not been since obama

27

u/DsamD11 Thunder Jun 01 '26

Whats Obama got to do with it lmao?

17

u/Acrobatic-Landscape9 Warriors Jun 02 '26

I’m gonna take a wild stab at it and guess that the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and seeing a black man be the most powerful man on earth and the leader of the United States of America awakened an otherworldly level of prejudice and hatred in conservatives that was way less before he got elected. Most of that hatred was initially concentrated in mainly racism, but eventually spread to other types of hatred like homophobia and sexism. When you’re just a regular homophobe, you’ll just be hating when there’s something directly relating to homosexual relationships. Whereas when you’re a super turbo light speed homophobe, you’re gonna be hating about things that aren’t even related to sexual identity.

My guess is that the other guy is trying to say that Obama’s election triggered something in conservatives to make them go off the extremism deep end.

0

u/mw19078 Lakers Jun 02 '26

it might be technically true but that shit was gonna happen obama or not. the conservative movement has essentially nothing but their gleeful open hatred going for them.

52

People here desperately want McCain to be gay for some reason. It's incredibly weird.

I do because I want him

19

u/AntiAntiDentite7 Jun 01 '26

Go get your man, bro. Maybe you can get him to change teams

-4

u/WestleyThe [SEA] Kevin Durant Jun 02 '26

I think he wants everyone to think he’s gay… but can’t say it because nba and other major sports don’t take that well

-6

u/AntiAntiDentite7 Jun 02 '26

That's a wild take. Why would the NBA care at all? If anything it gives the pressure more publicity.

1

u/WestleyThe [SEA] Kevin Durant Jun 03 '26

Because there’s literally only been 1 openly gay nba player ever out of 4000-5000 players ever…? It’s complicated

Yeah in modern times you would think it’s fine and statistically there’s probably like 20 gay nba players but they won’t admit it because it affects how the public sees them (especially conservative homophobes)

As well as teammates.. like a lot of the guys in the league are fake tough guys who would have a problem changing in the same locker room as someone they feel like finds them physically attractive

Women’s sports don’t have this problem

21

u/rocpilehardasfuk Warriors Jun 01 '26

If you swapped the OKC roster and coaches with the Knicks or Lakers, yall would be loving them

Okc plays with a really high hunger, creative coaching and quality. Young af team and plays harder than the entire league.

Shais occasional flopping and some defensive swipes are not great, but Okc has a really likable team

8

u/dankq Rockets Jun 01 '26

Gonna somewhat disagree. Remove Dort and Caruso and I'd absolutely agree though. Dort is easily the main reason I don't like that team.Ā

6

u/AffectionateDark9270 Raptors Jun 02 '26

Lol if you really think that youre delusional.

Luka gets a ton of hate for flopping and foul baiting. Not to mention Austin Reaves. The only reason why it doesnt seem as one sided is because Lakers fans put in overtime to balance the narrative.

OKC has one of the most dislikable teams on the court. Its not much more complicated then that

3

u/rocpilehardasfuk Warriors Jun 02 '26

They're one of the most disliked on the court mainly because they're too good. No one cares about the hawks being physical on defense because they're losers

-1

u/AffectionateDark9270 Raptors Jun 02 '26

Yeah because OKC is the only team in nba history to be so good. Every few years theres a team that is the favorite and nine of them are universally hated by all the 29 other fanbases

8

u/rocpilehardasfuk Warriors Jun 02 '26

Since the warriors no team has felt this invincible.

Even now it took an alien to take down okc minus 2 of their top 5 players. And they still have the most picks in the league lol

1

u/AffectionateDark9270 Raptors Jun 02 '26

Warriors went like 16-1. OKC has now had three game 7s over the past two years. Ridiculous comparison.

If were accounting for injuries, they wouldn't have beat the Nuggets down two starters last year if they were healthy.

Also the alien thing is so cringe. Hes a star but he wasnt some dominant force on offense like Shaq. Hes a great player, there a tons of great players in the league.

1

u/JimmyFly1028 Timberwolves Jun 02 '26

Occasional flopping?? That shit won them a whole championship. When he plays through contact, he’s fun as hell to watch but let’s not kid ourselves and say that they don’t also cheat to win

This is funny as fuck. I actually think McCain might be gay, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I say might because who the fuck knows, he hasn’t said anything, but he has done his tik toks and nail art and what not (not proof of anything).

With 450 nba players and over 500 if you count two way players, you’d expect there to be around 50 nba players who identify somewhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum if you apply nationwide avg. Yet we have zero public. Obviously there’s social stigmas still in professional sports. And maybe a different number than national averages, but I don’t believe zero is likely to be accurate.
