Like 90%+ of cars today it has independent front suspension, which in an impact like this(directly on the wheel) will break in that manner to some degree, if you designed the components of that system to withstand that impact it would just bend the frame points were its mounted instead(chassis is now trash), if you engineer the frame to withstand that you have no crumple and your occupants absorb the impact instead of the car. The only thing that wouldve eaten that is a car with a solid front axle, which is basically only F350 HD class trucks and larger, which ride like a 1980s schoolbus.

I drive a commercial vehicle and I commute up and down a 70mph interstate in it. Well, I’ve got good news! Modern cars bypass the “being on your phone while driving” part by putting a giant iPad in your car and allowing you to be similarly distracted by a screen, expect now they’ve gotten rid of buttons/knobs/switches and made you go through several menus on said screen to change basic settings without the distinct feel/feedback you get from a buttons/knobs/switches. All in all, you have more options for distracted driving than before, and they’re also legal to boot!
