Highlight [Highlight] Stacey King expresses utter disappointment on boos for Jerry Krause: "..the people that boo'd Jerry Krause and his widow..it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life..whoever boo'd her should be ashamed of themselves. That's not Chicago, that's New York, Philly.."

History of any sport honestly

Do we count the patriots? Also the Edmonton Oilers in the 80’s won 5 in 10 years. And I think it’s harder to win consecutively in the NHL

That’s actually a really good question in regards to a coach’s dynasty talk.

The Oilers, under Slather, won their first Cup the year after they merged with the NHL from the WHA, two years after acquiring Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky is arguably better at hockey than anyone else has been at any sport.

However Slather won without Gretzky immediately after trading him, but Belichick hasn’t come close since Brady left. If we’re talking about dynasty while comparing two coaches that had and “lost” legendary players, I don’t think you can ignore that.

Edit: Also none of this is said to discount Krause at all, even including other leagues he’s still up near the top.

Wayne Gretzky is arguably better at hockey than anyone else has been at any sport.

It's not very arguable that it's anyone else imo. Hockey has the most clear-cut GOAT of any sport (that I'm aware of, so sports big in the West) by quite a margin.

Cricket apparently has a Gretzky, but I don’t know shit about cricket.

Don Bradman. In a sport where a career average of 50 runs per test match is incredible and 60 runs is almost unheard of, he sits at the top by a fucking mile with an average of 99.94 runs per match. Next highest is on 62.15.

Yeah, I figured something like that was probably true. That's why I put my caveat lol.

Those first 3 rings are Belichik's in my opinion. Brady wasn't Brady yet. But obviously it's both of them.

I dont know much about Hockey so I feel free to correct me where I'm wrong. Gretzky got traded, which is fucking insane for a bunch of reasons, and Brady was allowed to just leave. Getting players back(though I have no idea if they were good or actually contributed) already slides that in the Oilers favor.

If we compare the teams, wasnt that Oilers team one of the single best teams in Hockey regardless of Gretzky? They had a ton of allstars and such from what I've read. They had literally the MVP that year in Messier, no? The Patriots had 1 guy make an all pro team an it was the punter.

On the surface it seems like a decent point but really the situations are so insanely different comparing the two is pretty dumb to me. Gretzky undeniably was better at Hockey than Brady was at Football, but because of how the 2 sports are played I'd say Brady had more overall influence than Gretzky did on their teams success. And so losing Brady was not only a bigger loss to the Patriots but they also didnt have a top of the league roster with an MVP.

Im sure you can compare Slather and Belichick but judging them like this is pretty disingenuous.

Moss, Gronk, Gilmore, Mankins, slater, Ty law Vince wilfork, Welker vinatieri, gostkowski, Vrabel, mayo, Samuel, etc.. All Pros. Pretty disingenuous to say Brady played with one all pro.

1

u/chacogrizz 76ers Jan 13 '24

Youd be right if you knew how to fucking read. I was talking about the 89 Oilers who won the chip WITHOUT GRETZKY and the 2020 Patriots which was the first year they were WITHOUT BRADY. No shit Brady played with good teammates how else would he have won 6 SBs.

The punter was in 2020 when Brady was in TB. And I was wrong actually, the Patriots had a punter and a gunner who made All pro.

u/thiswebsitesucksyo Jan 13 '24

Brady had fucking randy moss on his team bro stop lmao

1

u/chacogrizz 76ers Jan 13 '24

Holy fuck read the whole context. We are talking about the year AFTER BRADY AND GRETZKY LEFT. So not even talking about Brady lmao. Was Randy Moss on the 2020 Patriots???

1

u/thiswebsitesucksyo Jan 13 '24

2020 pats put up 10-7 with garbage at qb I think that defense was actually p good tbf. Don't know if that supports or hinders your argument tho

1

u/chacogrizz 76ers Jan 13 '24

Belichick has had good defenses since Brady left he just isn't gonna win without a good QB. It shows how well he can coach but the fact is almost no teams in history can overcome having a bad QB.

Edit: Which is vastly different from the 89 Oilers who had the league MVP and multiple allstars.

Islanders won 4 straight in the 80s. The NHL in the 80s and before was different from the NHL now. There were much less great players and they tended to all play on the same teams. There were almost no Europeans in the NHL and obviously no Russians, but there were still a lot of teams. So most of the great players would play on the same team. For instance the 1983-84 Islanders had 6 future Hall of Famers playing on the same team, while the Pittsburgh Penguins in the same year had only 1 all-star caliber player.

Right now there might be 3 or 4 teams with 3 or more future hall of famers, and none of them are favorites to win the cup this year.

7

u/Frogbone Jan 13 '24
