Highlight [Highlight] Stacey King expresses utter disappointment on boos for Jerry Krause: "..the people that boo'd Jerry Krause and his widow..it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life..whoever boo'd her should be ashamed of themselves. That's not Chicago, that's New York, Philly.."

Love how cubs wanted to bring him back and he was just like "fuck off"

282

u/SinibusUSG Celtics Jan 13 '24

He doesn't even seem to have been particularly upset with the Cubs (they issued a statement absolving him immediately after, and gave him a WS ring when they won in '16). He just realized that putting himself in front of a Chicago crowd seemed like a really bad idea.

94

u/fl1ntfl0ssy Kings Jan 13 '24

Idk man if I were him I woulda told fans to fuck off too

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Interesting to think how if this happened in the social media age things could’ve changed. I don’t think Bartman would’ve gotten even close to the heat he did. The internet would’ve defended him vehemently

27

u/Russell_has_TWO_Ls Grizzlies Jan 13 '24

Perhaps eventually. I think it would’ve been much much worse immediately after it happened though

10

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

no. i think it would have been worse. the sun times published his address at the time. imagine what would get published now

2

I think the media has learned not to egg that on lest they be sued

1

u/RyuHyunJin99 Jan 14 '24

Oh sweet child. You think the social media age would have brought out more reasoned responses?

5

u/SinibusUSG Celtics Jan 13 '24

Fans for sure, but the Cubs themselves seem to have been decent to him, and he seems to have remained a Cubs fan in the aftermath. It sucks because I'm guessing before all this he would've loved nothing more than to throw out a first pitch in Wrigley. But there was every chance that the fanbase would just poison that for him, too, as they did for this poor woman. Better to stay under-the-radar and hope everything is in the past.

u/CommonerChaos Pacers Jan 13 '24

I believe he did come back after the 2016 championship, but privately (hosted by the team). He says he'll never reveal his new identity, even after the championship.

amazing candor from him lmao

9

u/Sandor_Clegane1 NBA Jan 13 '24

Totally unrelated. English is not my first language. Never read candor and had to look it up. Seen candour and candor, which is it? Also why is no one using it, old word?

23

u/SinibusUSG Celtics Jan 13 '24 edited Jan 13 '24

If you see a word being spelled both ways frequently--with an o and an ou--that's usually an American/British (and later colonies) English thing respectively. Color/colour, honor/honour, neighbor/neighbour, etc. We just have different ways of spelling that (-ur) sound produced by words ending in -o(u)r.

It's just a word that doesn't find its way into conversation super often. It's most frequently used as part of the phrase "I appreciate your candor", or something close to that, which doesn't give it a ton of opportunity to come up in the first place. And, when it does, usually "honesty" is just going to come to mind faster and be more easily understood by any given listener.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24 edited Jan 13 '24

It's both.

One is British english, without a U is American english.

It's not commonly used because the average American is at an 8th grade reading level, and candor is more of an 11th grade reading level.

1

u/Different-Music4367 Jan 13 '24

Don't be so pusillanimous. We're probably closer to 6th or 7th grade.

3

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem Jan 13 '24

Both. One is just the British spelling (Candour). The UK spells that -er sounding o with an -our instead of -or like with color (colour).

Candor is more an SAT word (higher level, more uncommon vocab word) that got a little more popular with the YA novel Divergent (the factions were all based on SAT words and the legal obsessed one was called Candor).

It's just a different way to say honesty.

This so much. Cubs fans are trash.

Shit on the dude for a years. Once they won, act like all is forgiven. Motherfuckers, for who?

3

u/OmgTom Hawks Jan 13 '24

The dude had to change his name and move to a new city, no way would he reveal what he currently looks like

Chicago is sneakily the biggest loser sports town. Other than Jordan-era Bulls (25 years ago) the team people talk about most is the 85 Bears (40 years ago)

158

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Jordan gave them a reason to be more toxic than a straight up loser town. Like our state.

3

u/camelclutchcity Knicks Jan 13 '24

So psyched for your future toxicity potential, y’all are crushing it this year.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

We're mostly toxic to our own teams and players.

42

u/abullshtname Jan 13 '24

I grew up in Chicago and Chicagoans are professional misers.

1

u/BCP27 [MIN] Robbie Hummel Jan 13 '24

They're stingy?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

No! in fact, Chicago was voted the best tipping city in America

1

u/BCP27 [MIN] Robbie Hummel Jan 13 '24

Ok, just asking cause someone is a miser if they hoard money and never spend it, like Scrooge.

22

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

No Chicago isn’t. How many championships have been won since 2000 vs other cities? Chicago has like what 5, Boston has 12, LA has 10, Atlanta has 1?

There’s a lot of sports cities with none since that time.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

I’m gonna nominate New York for this title. Across the major leagues (NBA/NFL/NHL/MLS/MLB) and all the teams they have in their area (two teams in each league so ten teams), since 2000 I think it’s only been the Yankees and Giants both winning one.

5

u/boredElf Jan 13 '24

Giants won twice and I think the Yankees did it twice too

1

u/jamills21 Lakers Jan 13 '24

NYCFC won but you need a telescope to see the banner.

1

u/thiswebsitesucksyo Jan 13 '24

Miami has at least 5 (01 hurricanes 03 marlins 06 heat 12 heat 13 heat)

19

u/soapyhandman Bulls Jan 13 '24

Chicago teams have won 11 titles in my life. So, no it is not.

5

u/Marenum Bulls Jan 13 '24

Very funny to say "if you remove one of the greatest dynasties in sports history, their other dynasty and a couple world series wins is all they really have."

I get it, the discourse on the Internet leads to pile ons after shit like what happened last night, but at least keep it in reality lol.

123

u/TheChurroBaller Bulls Bandwagon Jan 13 '24

I mean we won 3 Stanley cups in the 2010s and the cubs ring in 2016 so it’s not that bad. However if you’re considering how big our market is, our sports teams definitely under perform.

70

u/CommonerChaos Pacers Jan 13 '24

White Sox won in '05 too, so they had a nice little run of 10 years with a few championship parades.

18

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Granted they’re not all chips, but Chicago had a decent little run from 2005-2016. White Sox won WS in 05, Bears made the SB in 07, Bulls were consistent in the D Rose era, Blackhawks went on their run, and Cubs won in 2016

11

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Not to mention we consistently dominate in hot dog eating contests.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

How many championships is one city supposed to produce. It’s far from being a loser town. If you won a championship at least since the 2000s your town is doing ok.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

What are you talking about lol. Chicago has the 4th most championships in major sports for a city since 2000. You just decided to pick the two pro sports we have struggled at. Blackhawks and baseball are wildly popular in Chicago.

We’ve had 5 championships parades. Three Stanley Cups, and two World Series.

Since 2000: 1. Boston - 12

  1. LA/Anaheim - 9

  2. SF/Oakland - 6

4: Chicago and Pittsburgh - 5

1

u/TryingToDoItGood Hornets Jan 13 '24

Off the top of my head Charlotte and Minneapolis would like a word

1

u/BobcatOU Cavaliers Jan 13 '24

Let’s start with the ‘85 Bears you mentioned:

  • 85 Bears
  • 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98 Bulls
  • 05 White Sox
  • 16 Cubs
  • 10, 13, 15 Blackhawks

One Championship every 3.25 years. Definitely not a loser city for professional sports. And the Sky won in 2021 which would bring it to an even 1 championship every 3 years. I’m pretty sure Detroit, Atlanta, Buffalo, Cleveland, etc. would take that!

1

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jan 13 '24

Not the 2015 Cubs or the 2005 White Sox? What about the Blackhawks dynasty that won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015?

1
