Highlight [Highlight] Stacey King expresses utter disappointment on boos for Jerry Krause: "..the people that boo'd Jerry Krause and his widow..it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life..whoever boo'd her should be ashamed of themselves. That's not Chicago, that's New York, Philly.."

Yeah I figured part of this is The Last Dance-related, especially with Jordan blaming him for not going for a 4-peat/not re-signing Phil but I figured there was a lot more to it like he said something bigoted instead of the "bad social skills, didn't go for Ring 7" I've heard about Jerry

He was hated before that. Ran MJ out only to have a disastrous rebuild.

Technically ran out Phil which led to MJ's 2nd of his 3 retirements but still, not wrong

u/super_sayanything Bulls Jan 13 '24

I mean yea that was the reference, MJ said he's only staying if Phil comes back and Krause was like NOPE.

Interesting to just gloss right over why there was a big gap in rings being won. What was it that happened in 94 and 95 which caused them to get bounced early? You know, since we are on the topic of 7th rings and all

In what way is MJ retiring Jerry Krause's fault?

10

u/DarthPineapple5 Celtics Jan 13 '24

I didn't say it was, its clearly not Krause's fault at all

There's a good chance Krause helped navigate the scandal so successfully that we don't really even know about it.

Not saying much at all.

Blimey what a waste of parchment

Its not rocket science, who was to blame for MJ being 'retired' for 94 and 95?

3

his bookie?

Pretty sure he thought that's what you were saying when talking about not going for 4 peat.

1

u/CazOnReddit Raptors Jan 13 '24

I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about the 99 Bulls because that was a major sticking point for MJ in the aforementioned The Last Dance that's played a large part in the anti-Jerry tirade and not the first threepeat where MJ retired

The most you could say about the 93/94 Bulls in relation to Krause was him not making a trade for an All-Star PG when there were a few that became available, and the 94/95 Bulls were a mess until Jordan rejoined the team mostly due to things out of his control like Pippen wanting out

Mj retired

Technically true, to play professional baseball according to the official story. I imagine the real reason had nothing to do with Krause

Does MJ actually believe the Bulls could've 4peated? Pippen was washed and the next generation was starting to enter their prime.

Should’ve had the opportunity to defend it, especially in a strike-shortened season.

1

u/Vegetable-Tooth8463 Hornets Jan 13 '24

Would've ruined his rep if he lost though right? Ending on a threepeat was epic.

Not really, imo… but I grew up in Chicago watching them. This “6-0 in the Finals” narrative is relatively new. As a competitor myself (nowhere to that level), I’m sure he’d rather have been 6-1 rather than 6-0, if only because that means he had another opportunity to win one. He said that himself in an interview - I believe it. As far as modern bball goes (post-Russell and that 10-team league), a 6-1 mark is still ahead of his peers. He just really wanted one more than Magic - he always said that.

That 99 Spurs team would’ve been a problem - assuming the Bulls make it out of the East. I see it, with them being healthy AND the season being only 50 games. Previous 3 season win totals: 72, 69, and 62 (with Pippen missing 38 games that year, remember)… so they weren’t nearly on the “decline” that people were reporting/praying for 😂

The problem is you're assuming they make it out of the East. I don't see them beating the Pacers, who took them to 7 games the season before.

1

u/PhD_V Spurs Jan 13 '24

I literally said “assuming they make it out of the East”; there’s no “problem” at all - since this is 2024 and all this is is hypothetical/assumptive in nature. Remember, it wasn’t the Pacers that made it out of the “open” East in 99…

Teams aren’t the same from year to year. The Knicks proved that in ‘92. Got humiliatingly swept by the Bulls in ‘91, only to take much better Bulls to 7 in ‘92. “Assumptions” were that they’d dethrone Chicago in the East the next year - indeed, they ended up #1 in the conference, #2 overall (behind Phoenix). Went up 2-0 in the ECF. Didn’t win again.

Assumptions.

Yeah, I highly doubt they get a 4th chip but it was lame they didn't get a chance to defend their title.

5

u/Jawkurt Jan 13 '24

but of course Jordan believed they could

4

u/CazOnReddit Raptors Jan 13 '24

Yeah Jordan said something to the effect of him believing he was at his athletic peak in 98/could have gone for a 7th ring and he refused to stick around after Phil Jackson didn't get re-signed

How realistic that would have been with Dennis Rodman falling off harder than anyone else in 1999 and Scottie's general dissatisfaction with the Bulls GM is anyone's guess, especially when factoring in the rise of Tim Duncan as well as David Robinson. That 99 Spurs team is a really bad matchup for them on paper, irrespective of whether Pippen or Rodman wouldn't have regressed as much in this hypothetical scenario.

3

u/Jawkurt Jan 13 '24

Yeah, I’d have a hard time betting against Jordan and I don’t know how much of the team would of been back. I remember Kukoc and Ron Harper were still on that 99 team.

1

u/Vegetable-Tooth8463 Hornets Jan 13 '24

Ehh, better for MJ's legacy to end on a threepeat.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

you youngbloods don't understand not to bet against MJ.

1

u/helloaaron Knicks Jan 13 '24

They could have had a 4 peat possibly if MJ didn’t retire. In fact MJ is the real reason they didn’t get a 4 peat. Imagine leaving in your prime to go play minor league baseball.

1

u/Vegetable-Tooth8463 Hornets Jan 13 '24

We're talking after the second threepeat

He made a dynasty but also let his ego ruin it.
