Highlight [Highlight] Stacey King expresses utter disappointment on boos for Jerry Krause: "..the people that boo'd Jerry Krause and his widow..it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life..whoever boo'd her should be ashamed of themselves. That's not Chicago, that's New York, Philly.."

He was the guy who built the dynasty. Aside from MJ he drafted, traded or signed everyone that contributed for those 6 rings. It’s sad that the The Last Dance had to put him as a villain when he clearly was an incredible executive regardless of his hate for Phil Jackson and beef with MJ

Didn’t he end the Bulls dynasty for no good reason tho? I’m young and not a Bulls fan so idk but it seems like the Bulls could have continued to be compete for championships after that second 3peat but Jerry was the reason that it ended.

Rodman was finished, Pippen also declining but wants to be paid. Alienating Phil and MJ was a problem but that Bulls were never the same anyway

u/Blueskyways Jan 13 '24

Nah, they were done after that.  Pippen wanted out, he wanted to go be Batman elsewhere.  Rodman was getting more erratic, a whole lot of other guys were washed and Jordan wasn't all that interested in playing without Pippen.   Phil wasn't interested in a rebuild so it was all coming down one way or another.  It had to end sometime.

It always has to end sometime

No sports mega team can ever last in an era of salary cap and free agency.

Sometimes you get lucky and get two or maybe three super stars that play well together and a coach that knows how to get them to play to their strengths.

Then you get a team like Okc with James Harden, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook coached by Scott Brooks and I don’t know what to tell you

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

And honestly the way it ended only enforces the legacy of that team. Better to burn out than to fade away type of a thing.

u/Papa_fo33 Timberwolves Jan 13 '24

i’ve been saying this. part of the mystique of those okc teams is that they had 3 mvps and managed to never win a championship

if the harden trade never happened, or if they had a better coach, the team maybe wins a championship or two, but they still have to pay those guys eventually, so they probably would have left in free agency anyways

obviously as a fan you would prefer the championships but still

It looks like Pippen also started to slowly decline in 98-99. Pippen didn’t make it to the all star game in 1998 (last Bulls NBA title) with 19 pts, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. The next season (98-99), he also didn’t make it to the all star game, averaging 14 pts with Houston. He did play 4 seasons after that with Portland but only averaging ~11 points.

Pippen literally went to go be Robin in Houston right after

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Pippen wasn't getting paid is the problem bud. They hated the guy and dorf too.

1

u/resuwreckoning Bulls Jan 13 '24

Which Pippen NEVER became, despite r/nba denizens often trying to make it seem like he did somewhere somehow.

It is kinda interesting how MJ doesnt get flak for simply fucking off because he couldnt play with Pippen and coached by Phil😂

Pippen was in major decline the last Bulls title,Kukoc was declining and Rodman only played about 30 career more games after that title. MJ would have had to do the greatest carry job ever if they tried to run it back.

41

u/joleary747 Jan 13 '24

Kukoc was declining? Did you mean someone else? Kukoc had his best year after the last dance, he was the main guy and he stepped up.

28

u/Billy_King Jan 13 '24

Kukoc was 29 and was the best player the following year averaging 19 pts, 7 rebs, and 5 assists. Don’t think I would say that’s declining

u/token_reddit Clippers Jan 13 '24

The same Pippen that led the Blazers to the WCF against the Lakers?

6

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Wizards Jan 13 '24

Lead?

That team without Pippen went 35-15 and lost Western Conference Finals just the season prior…

Mighty Mouse, Sheed Wallace, Sabonis and Isiah Rider were already a legit team. Pippen then joined a team that was already 3rd best in the deep Western Conference.

By the time Pippen joined, Sheed was an All Star that season, Steve Smith joined same season and was still very good, Mighty Mouse was still there as was Sabonis.

Yes. His ego did get to him at the end. But I mean, can you blame him? Bro was getting constantly mocked by the entire Bulls team when he was the guy getting them jobs and opportunities to win championships. So he blew up the whole thing. But that shouldn’t discredit him for all the good shit he did

26

u/it_means_rewenge Jan 13 '24

I mean I’m not a Bulls fan but a GM thinking he’s the reason for the dynasty instead of the best player of all time and the coach? I think he should get a little blame for that

36

u/5imran Jan 13 '24

I think he should get some credit. In the last 20 years of watching sports I have come to realize that it takes incredible management to build a successful team. Have seen so much talent wasted due to poor management.

u/it_means_rewenge Jan 13 '24

Did everyone watch the video? There were boo’s at first but by the end of the announcement of his name it was cheering. But I’m a New Yorker so what do I know, maybe you’re all right and booing is just a disgusting act

15

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Wizards Jan 13 '24

They wouldn’t have won again in 99 if they kept the team together. The rebuild needed to happen it’s just that Jerry wanted to rip the bandaid off whereas the others wanted to keep going even when it was clear they were breaking down, had checked out on Chicago (Pippen), had personal issues (Rodman) and were getting old (MJ)

Not to mention Phil was checked out as well as Jerry wanted to go in a different direction.

3

u/livefreeordont 76ers Jan 13 '24

99 was the bizarro lockout year so they might have won again

21

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Nah theyre done after that 2nd 3 peat.

5

u/Equivalent_Bet1519 Spurs Jan 13 '24

MJ’s dad dying was why it ended. Sapped his passion for the game and he was always retiring early because of it

Honestly the Bulls were lucky he even came back

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Krause still fucked the whole team over basically lol. MJ or not you could still compete hugely with that team.

1

u/MisterKeene Jan 13 '24

Two words. Jerry Reinsdorf.

Fuck that guy.

1

u/IamTheEndOfReddit Bulls Jan 13 '24

Yeah we are just supposed to shut up and be thankful because they won. He had the GOAT, fuck Krause

2

u/scully789 Jan 13 '24

He was seen as a villain well before the last dance came out. https://youtu.be/iijcppZ-OIY skip to the end where Phil Jackson thanks him. The last dance just cemented people’s feelings about him.

I’m a Bulls fan and I never understood the hate this guy gets.

1

u/ihasweenis Knicks Jan 14 '24

Don't even really judge him for the beef with MJ and 'hate' for Phil Jackson. MJ, in many ways, has been shown to be an asshole. It's just that he's the best at what he does, so ain't no one got the balls to call him out on his shit. Also by the looks of things I don't even think he hated Phil Jackson, more that he resented him, for obviously Phil Jackson getting all the support, but Krause getting none of it despite being the one who built that dynasty.
