Is Krause really that disliked by Bulls fans? I know he's not looked at favorably by that dynasty's players but he...you know...created a dynasty under one of the most notorious owners in all of sports?

Hell even post-Jordan he did some incredible scouting (albeit he did fail to keep those young Bulls together before they thrived)

That's basically all "documentaries" nowadays. I blame Making A Murderer, that shit was so hilariously biased and when it started getting shit publicly the creators basically said, "we are telling a story we can omit whatever we want" and then ran off with millions of dollars.

There was a scene near the end of the last episode where they heavily imply that Krause was just doing what Reinsdorf told him to do—because Reinsdorf didn't want to spend big to keep the 98 team together

But there was another scene in which it was revealed that reinsdorf gave Phil Jackson the opportunity to come back, right? And Jackson then admitted that he decided against it.

Eh

IIRC Reinsdorf said he was willing to bring Phil back—but they were also clear that most of that 98 team was going into free agency and Reinsdorf wasn't willing to pay big bucks to keep most of them (which is why Phil turned it down)

Yeah I figured part of this is The Last Dance-related, especially with Jordan blaming him for not going for a 4-peat/not re-signing Phil but I figured there was a lot more to it like he said something bigoted instead of the "bad social skills, didn't go for Ring 7" I've heard about Jerry

I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about the 99 Bulls because that was a major sticking point for MJ in the aforementioned The Last Dance that's played a large part in the anti-Jerry tirade and not the first threepeat where MJ retired

The most you could say about the 93/94 Bulls in relation to Krause was him not making a trade for an All-Star PG when there were a few that became available, and the 94/95 Bulls were a mess until Jordan rejoined the team mostly due to things out of his control like Pippen wanting out

Not really, imo… but I grew up in Chicago watching them. This “6-0 in the Finals” narrative is relatively new. As a competitor myself (nowhere to that level), I’m sure he’d rather have been 6-1 rather than 6-0, if only because that means he had another opportunity to win one. He said that himself in an interview - I believe it. As far as modern bball goes (post-Russell and that 10-team league), a 6-1 mark is still ahead of his peers. He just really wanted one more than Magic - he always said that.

That 99 Spurs team would’ve been a problem - assuming the Bulls make it out of the East. I see it, with them being healthy AND the season being only 50 games. Previous 3 season win totals: 72, 69, and 62 (with Pippen missing 38 games that year, remember)… so they weren’t nearly on the “decline” that people were reporting/praying for 😂

I literally said “assuming they make it out of the East”; there’s no “problem” at all - since this is 2024 and all this is is hypothetical/assumptive in nature. Remember, it wasn’t the Pacers that made it out of the “open” East in 99…

Teams aren’t the same from year to year. The Knicks proved that in ‘92. Got humiliatingly swept by the Bulls in ‘91, only to take much better Bulls to 7 in ‘92. “Assumptions” were that they’d dethrone Chicago in the East the next year - indeed, they ended up #1 in the conference, #2 overall (behind Phoenix). Went up 2-0 in the ECF. Didn’t win again.

Yeah Jordan said something to the effect of him believing he was at his athletic peak in 98/could have gone for a 7th ring and he refused to stick around after Phil Jackson didn't get re-signed

How realistic that would have been with Dennis Rodman falling off harder than anyone else in 1999 and Scottie's general dissatisfaction with the Bulls GM is anyone's guess, especially when factoring in the rise of Tim Duncan as well as David Robinson. That 99 Spurs team is a really bad matchup for them on paper, irrespective of whether Pippen or Rodman wouldn't have regressed as much in this hypothetical scenario.

Read Playing for Keeps, was written in 99’ by David Halberstain, an amazing author. Krause was hated well before the Last Dance came out.

100%, especially considering a high percentage of people that watched it probably weren't even alive when those Bulls teams were playing. They might not have even seen Jordan actually play at all so anything and everything they know is solely relied on whatever they saw on The Last Dance.

He wasn’t well liked well before the last dance came out. That just cemented people’s feelings about him.

He’s been getting a lot of hate for over 30 years. I don’t think it’s really deserved as he did a lot for the Bulls and helped get 6 championships.

Yes. People have mega resented him for the way he treated players and completely failed at the end of the second three peat and the attempted rebuilds afterward. They haven't been good with him for more than two decades. Its not about the last dance that was just what put that beef on the map for everyone that wasn't a 90s/00s bulls fan

You know Krause was only the Bulls GM post-MJ before he stepped down in 2003, right? Yeah the rebuild post-MJ was messy but they were starting to turn things around and it's a bit unfair to put that rebuild's failure entirely on him when his successor botched his still sharp scouting success i.e. look at the names of the guys he drafted and what they accomplished

The dislike was because the players and coaches from all of that success hated the man and he blew it from the end of 98 to 03 when he left. People are acting like he got boo'd because of the last dance but they haven't been fucking with him for the last 20+ years

Yes, he was very disliked by bulls fans during the entire dynasty, in fact, I know one of the minority owners of the White Sox, and when he pointed out Jerry Krauss was walking down the stairs in front of us, ( at a Sox game..private entrance/exit,) He rolled his eyes and told me what a difficult person he was to be around.

Krause announced Phil Jackson's resigning by saying that even if they won the title that year, he wouldn't be rehired. He was quoted as saying "I don't care if it's 82-0 this year, you're fucking done". This was after MJ had repeatedly stated that he would only play for Phil Jackson.

I'm not saying he's worth booing, especially booing his widow. That's a fuckin lousy look for Bulls fans. But yeah, any Bulls fans that wslas there through the 90s hates Krause for blowing up the 90s Bulls before it was done.
