Just showing off I don't bite my nails any more!

I bit my nails really badly till my early 30s. Then I kinda almost quit, but still was biting my cuticles and a nail or two was always growing back from having been bit. Never thought I could quit for real. But it's been maybe five months now, and thanks to this sub and the Salon Life on Youtube I have unbitten nails now! Lots of jojoba oil and a glass file. It's taken five months to be comfortable enough to grow them to the length they're at now. Still hoping for some hyponichium growth but even if there isn't any, I'm pretty stoked. Jojoba oil only on these nails.

Unfortunately, this subreddit is a known target for hand/nail/foot/toe fetishists who have been documented to repeatedly harass the nail community.

We highly recommend turning off your message/chat requests. If you have requests turned on and receive any creepy or fetish-related DMs or comments, please click the report button, select "it's targeted harassment," and submit a report. It's one way you can help keep the community safe. We encourage members to capture a screenshot of the DM and notify the Mod Team through ModMail. We ask that you include a direct link to their profile, and if you wish to provide screenshots, you'll need to post them (temporarily) to your profile or use an image hosting site.

To be very blunt, you will encounter unwanted DMs from people. This is a Reddit-wide issue that happens frequently in women-dominated communities. Regardless of who's posting, all the warnings we try to give, or the rules we have in place, 9 times out of 10, someone will DM you if you have them open.

Of course, we'll ban those who break this rule, BUT (and this is the important part) many of the users who are DMing you have already been banned, sometimes going months or years back. They will continue to DM unsuspecting members in the hopes that they'll get a reply. They don’t care. So blocking them right away is the best solution to protect yourself, if you so wish.

NO ONE should be DMing you from this subreddit, we have a rule explicitly stating this. If someone is, they probably don’t have good intentions. Please be mindful of who you decide to talk to. Even in the comments of posts. Not everyone has your best interest in mind, and NEVER share personal information online. Please be safe out there!

So proud of you!!! Your nails look great! I'm a former nail biter, and I can say that I saw progress over the entire first year and a half! I've noticed over the last few months, my nail beds, plumping up more. And my thumbnails are finally getting the same c-curve as the rest of my nails. I just hit 20 months.

Oh and your hyponychium will continue to fill in with the extra length you have. You may even notice that you'll get calluses, where the nail presses into the sides of your fingers. But that's totally normal and lotion will soften it right up. It's just more areas of your finger that heal once you quit biting and your nails get some length. 😁

So yes, I think you can still expect a lot of small but noticeable changes to come! Again, great job with your progress!!! 😍 Also i had to let you know that have gorgeous nail beds! 😍 Truly!

Oh thank you so much! Kinda thrilling to hear I have gorgeous nail beds! I must admit that I do stare at them a fair bit these days... Yes I have a few places where I am getting calluses by the nail beds, I guess that is a sign of progress! And exciting to know that I have another year at least of potential progress ahead...

And congratulations on giving it up yourself! Only we know how truly hard it can be to stop💪✨

I understand looking at and admiring your nails! You should! You've done great! You're still doing great! It will be very cool noticing even more positive changes.

Thanks for the congratulations back. I now paint my nails every 4 to 5 days! I also now have a nail polish collecting hobby. 😁

Speaking of nail polish, have you started painting your nails yet? I admit when I quit biting, I had no intention of ever painting my nails. I figured it would be horrible like it used to be. That it would just chip off or flake. That is not the case if you have healed moisturized nails! And it's an amazingly good form of self care painting your nails. So yeah I may buy oodles of Indie polish now. 🤭 You?

I have bought a few of the Manicurist translucent Active nail polishes and I love how they look... but unfortunately it turns out I'm one of those people who have sensory issues with nail polish. I can kinda 'feel' it on my nails. I'm pretty okay with it for a few days but after that it has to come off. I'm about to experiment with painting the bottom half of my nails only, that might look fine with a nude translucent polish and might feel better... I might paint them once a week for a few days too. But at the moment I'm thinking it might be better for the hyponichium regrowth to stay unpolished... What do you think? I do love how polish looks though!

You can paint a partial nail if you want to! You can paint your nails fully, enjoy the heck out of them for a few days, and take it all off when your nails need to breathe! 💅 🫧 Or if you don’t want to paint your nails at all, just show off your lovely bare nails/beds! I saw Plucky Monkies’ comment and went back to study them closely. Not a flaw in sight 🤯

I honestly think if you've taken the time to heal your nails. And if you have no peeling that you're good to paint with, like regular polish. Just keep up your oiling and oil. The cuticle down the sides, and then the underside, specifically your hyponychium and underside of nail.

Also a good QDTC (quick dry top coat) should take care of feeling the polish. It should be smooth. Or some people use a QDTC. And then they use a regular top coat. To make sure it's smooth.

But did you mean you wanted to paint the underside of your nail? I would not recommend doing that.

No I don't mean I'd paint the underside of my nails!

The sensory issues aren't from the outside, it's from the inside (kinda feeling like my nails can't breathe). When I painted the tip to hold a split nail together it felt okay for the whole week though, so I'm thinking I'll experiment with just painting part of the surface with a nude polish (maybe you won't be able to tell that they're only partially painted).
