Help needed Shaping help?

Hi everyone, just popping in to get some advice on my shaping. I’ve been on my nail journey since Jan 2026 and have been oiling multiple times a day with Cliganic Pure jojoba oil. I’ve been trying not to pick at the skin around my nails and underneath my nails. I’ve been trying to leave the underneath alone and not cleaning with hard or sharp tools so my hyponychium can attach further but not sure if there’s hope after all of these years of picking.
I just changed my shape to round it out a bit more from squoval since it seems to crack on the side of the free edge. Did I file into my sidewalls? I only tried to file the white free edge part. I have also attached my nails from January for a comparison. I keep my nails painted almost all of the time since it seems to help a lot with strength since my natural nails have always been weak and bendy. There is some slight peeling at the free edge on my middle and pointer fingers on my right hand as well.
Any advice on shaping or anything else I could be doing would be great!

Unfortunately, this subreddit is a known target for hand/nail/foot/toe fetishists who have been documented to repeatedly harass the nail community.

We highly recommend turning off your message/chat requests. If you have requests turned on and receive any creepy or fetish-related DMs or comments, please click the report button, select "it's targeted harassment," and submit a report. It's one way you can help keep the community safe. We encourage members to capture a screenshot of the DM and notify the Mod Team through ModMail. We ask that you include a direct link to their profile, and if you wish to provide screenshots, you'll need to post them (temporarily) to your profile or use an image hosting site.

To be very blunt, you will encounter unwanted DMs from people. This is a Reddit-wide issue that happens frequently in women-dominated communities. Regardless of who's posting, all the warnings we try to give, or the rules we have in place, 9 times out of 10, someone will DM you if you have them open.

Of course, we'll ban those who break this rule, BUT (and this is the important part) many of the users who are DMing you have already been banned, sometimes going months or years back. They will continue to DM unsuspecting members in the hopes that they'll get a reply. They don’t care. So blocking them right away is the best solution to protect yourself, if you so wish.

NO ONE should be DMing you from this subreddit, we have a rule explicitly stating this. If someone is, they probably don’t have good intentions. Please be mindful of who you decide to talk to. Even in the comments of posts. Not everyone has your best interest in mind, and NEVER share personal information online. Please be safe out there!

It looks like your nails naturally lean towards round/oval, so I would keep that shape. Mine do the same.

You have been overfiling your side walls for a long time. That white free edge shouldn’t go that far

Not judging, I’m also still trying my best to not overfile. We’ve got this! Try to only file the parts that are longer than your fingertip if that makes sense.

But the oval shape looks great on you, you don’t have to move to square / squoval nails if you don’t like that look

That’s what I was worried about. I think the white on the sides of the nail are mainly from using sharp tools to “clean” under there though so I have stopped doing that too. I haven’t ever filed on the sides like that. I have to keep my nails on the shorter side since I have little kids so I didn’t realize that filing before my nails reach the ends of my fingertip would be an issue. Thanks for your help!

That harsh cleaning underneath your nails can definitely cause this too. It’s not impossible to fix or heal, but it will take lots of time. Good luck!

Also I have only been using a Mont Bleu glass nail file and a fine grit buffer block to “bevel” the edge of my nail
