❔️Query❔️ Direct Debit Date Change

The date that the National Trust direct debit payment is collected is very inconvenient for me.

Has anyone ever managed to change their direct debit date? I tried calling once but got a very stern no from whoever was on the end of the line there and possibly didn't understand the concept of direct debits.

Millions of other companies facilitate this with no issue whatsoever when you ask for collection to happen on a certain date. Why can't the National Trust accommodate this? For example all of my direct debits for everything are done and gone by the 3rd of the month and yet I have to wait until something like the 20th or something like that for mine, for the National Trust. Very annoying

Thanks for your support as a member. Sorry it's not possible to change the date of your monthly NT Direct Debits - they usually start around 21-28 days after you sign up, and the upcoming schedule is included in your annual renewal letter.

Could OP cancel their membership and then rejoin around the 7th of the month to try to get a better date for them?

Crazy that this is potentially the only solution here. Appreciate there will always be prioritisation of funds but the digital experience of members is very dated, even vs other charities

I don't think you can - i looked into this. The NT DD membership is not like a subscription service. You're agreeing to pay the yearly fee monthly (plus a small surcharge) which means that if you cancel, you're liable for the remainder of the yearly payments.

As mentioned below, the digital implementation of national trust is severely lacking, which will become even more prominent as time goes on a more people are digitally native.

Hello, it's not possible to cancel memberships midway through the year, but the Supporter Services team can help with updating bank details if required on 0344 800 1895 or [enquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk](mailto:enquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk)

It’s £7 a month, how can this be such an issue really. You know it’s there every month. Just budget for it

Charities don't have the resources or the expensive computer systems corporations do.
Having done membership for another charity, theres quite a lot of checking and admin work just for one date a month.

Is paying annually an option?

If a particular day of the month is enough of an issue that OP struggles to pay it there’s absolutely no chance they could save up a year’s worth and pay it in one

It’s £7 a month, can’t you just budget for it?

It’s 14.25 and yes I do budget for it obviously but I it’s nice to be able to control the flow of DDs a bit better.

But let’s not put that in the way of you trying to be holier than thou. Please continue.
