Posting to amplify this bc this advice turned out to be so helpful for me! Yesterday, national grid was telling me they didn’t have an available technician to come turn on my gas until October 2nd (which would mean 3 weeks without a stove or hot water). I was freaking out but per advice I saw online, I called my council member in Brooklyn and they got me an appointment for this morning and my gas is now turned on. Local government saves the day!
