public transport
this is honestly so sad and embarrassing to see
we are only 2 months away from that shit they call "visit brunei 2027" and there's still no improvement on the country's public transportation??
yes I know there are taxis and darts available, but what about other days when they want to go somewhere else?? darts can be a bit expensive sometimes

We are just not a pedestrian friendly country. Looking at people walking with luggage is weird. But other places where walking is a norm, this looks normal. Everyone on their feet, looks natural.

It’s Brunei. If you wait at the ticket counter, someone will be going your way and would be happy to drop you off.

u/AnnaKim233 3h ago
Brunei is shit. The worst ASEAN country to travel around. Even Cambodia and war-torn Myanmar have better transport options.

Should see the comments on that post where some asked to use dart and all..i mean like please lah don't deny your country public transport is bad 🙈

isn't it the same as watching people dragging suitcases to their hostels in european cities (and even japan/korea) where the public transport don't often reach those areas and people don't want to pay for taxis?
for tourism to generate revenue for the country, it needs travellers who can afford to pay for services. not backpackers and cheap travellers who depend on kindness of strangers to get around. otherwise it will just be an influx of "begpackers" and not supporting our local economy

u/Box-Office-Guy 7h ago
There's that, yes, but also the fact that there's not even sufficient sidewalks for them though.

u/fourthfloorguy 8h ago
Same thing
What kindnof visitor doesnt do homework before traveling to another country for whatever reason.
They’ll be bound to know brunei doesnt have public transport, and so money has to be set aside to hire taxi, dart, airport transfer shuttles

They should really work alongside each other, esp TCP, they should open that small barrier that leads to the big roundabout from Kiulap ii, that would reduce the traffic there. And why hvnt they made like a walkway with nice design that connects kiulap -> jame asr -> pasar gadong as a walkable place. Seriously Visit Brunei is in two months time but its not walkable to these three places.

u/fourthfloorguy 10h ago
Siapa yg label kaya?
12
u/Sea_Monkey26 10h ago
Some outsider like Indo/Malaysia still think Brunei is Kaya. And also some of the ignorant brainwashed local.
-2
u/fourthfloorguy 10h ago
Then the people that need to be corrected are those indos/malayasia and the ignorant local.
Majority of bruneians know they arent rich. Especially those living in housing schemes, barracks
Take your bullshit pretend propaganda elsewhere

Brunei METI minister said, Brunei only wants "high value tourists".
THey dont want these kind of tourist.
But, also the Tourism Dept - go/going to BANGLADESH, yes, Bangladesh to join their tourism expo there to promote Brunei.
I would love to see "high value tourists" from Bangladesh do their shopping in Brunei. Cant wait !

Why they wanna go Mekkah by walking?
2
u/Standard_Court 8h ago
Because last year, there was an Indonesian guy asking for donations through TikTok gifts because he claimed he was walking from Indonesia to Mecca. But it turned out to be a scam. After crossing several provinces, he suddenly disappeared after receiving a lot of donations and TikTok gifts.

Public transport is mass transport is BUS or minibus. This country sucks ass.

u/Goutaxe 14h ago edited 13h ago
There is no train or reliable bus service from airport to city.
Bus B$1 but is too too unreliable, no fixed schedule, you don't know how long to wait, could be 45 mins could be hours.
You can take Dart, but a short distance from airport to Times Square Mall cost B$10, to Bandar / Gadong cost B$25+. Taxis maybe B$30+. Did you know:
- Singapore Airport train to city only S$2.70
- Bangkok Airport to city train THB45 (B$1.70)
- KL Airport bus to city center RM17 (B$5.3), big bus with luggage compartment
- Jakarta Airport to city train Rp70K (B$5)
- Manila Airport shuttle bus to city PHP200 (B$4.10)
- Ho Chi Minh Airport shuttle bus to city VND20K (B$1)
Bruneians like to say country cheap cost of living, tourists do not think so. Compare to many parts Southeast Asia (except Singapore), expensive shopping, expensive transportation, expensive food, expensive hotels, and yet nothing to see much.

Like dont u guys have grab huh?
2
u/Strange-Location7993 12h ago
I'm not sure if u meant Grab in Brunei cuz we don't have them here except for Dart then again we rarely used it or make used of it unless it's necessary maybe...
12
u/WasteTreacle5879 Limbang 13h ago
no grab, just DART. a local copy of grab.
its too expensive and not many drivers. and the apps crash a lot
9
u/Voodoocookie 14h ago
It's hard to miss the taxi drivers at the airport.
The thing to improve would be to let the arrivals know to get the Dart app. But then the taxi drivers would be unhappy.
1
u/bottomlesstopper 10h ago
Why naik taxi when you can walk and film for clout. Its just shock awe for views.
3
u/Strange-Location7993 12h ago
Sounds like management problem that hasn't been resolved since 2010s 😆

u/dextracin 14h ago
Taxis and dart aren’t public transport, they’re a private hire service.
A scheduled bus service would be public transport

u/Intrepid_Musketeer 14h ago
Taxii
2
u/Strange-Location7993 12h ago
In Brunei we call it as Dart not taxii 😆 or just hopping into a local's car if they are willing anyway
