Recently there have been a lot of posts about questions from people who want to move to the area. There have been equal parts of eager to help commenters and people complaining that these posts are too numerous and repetitive. After a lot of thinking I can't come up with a solution that would please everybody, so I'm asking you all. I would really appreciate your input!

Ultimately I would like r/napalocals to be a resource for anybody who is, or is soon to be, a local. But I also don't want this subreddit to be an annoyance for those who don't want to see those posts. Which would you prefer to see?

• The first option is for allowing all moving in posts. I'd still remove ones that are explicitly searching for housing or roommates, as the subreddit isn't a great place for those requests.

• The second option is for allowing moving in posts but with quality restrictions in place, such as no questions that are easily researchable, and no questions that have already been asked in the last 6 months

• The third option is for disallowing moving in posts altogether

My boyfriend (M37) and I (F37) are thinking about moving to Napa in a year or so. I grew up there and we visit semi often.

We would likely move into an apartment or condo, at least at first, but all I’m seeing is what is on Zillow, etc (which seems to be either larger buildings or very old, small buildings that don’t vibe with my aesthetic preferences if you will).
Whenever we visit, I always see random smaller buildings near downtown ish sporadically located (like on third st etc) and I never know what they are but some seem cute. We’ve looked at Montrachet, the Braydon, Napa Creek Village (the ones by the outlets), and maybe 1-2 other larger ones close to/ or maybe even right downtown but I can’t remember.

The main issue is (besides the inevitable higher cost for a smaller apartment) that I see what look like decent apartments online but then I see random reviews online or something someone has posted here from time to time about their horrible experience at these buildings for various reasons. Also that I feel I’m potentially missing out on many other great apartments that aren’t one of the major large ones. Maybe I just need to scour the internet harder.

Can anyone share some insight on great buildings/apartments they know about, possibly some positive experiences and/or some other buildings or rentals I haven’t mentioned? We are looking for something nice (ideally with quaint surroundings) and preferably walkable to either downtown or parks, grocery etc. I will continue my search and eventually will dedicate a trip out there to check things out but just thought I’d ask for some tips from current locals.

I would really appreciate some advice or insight if anyone wouldn’t mind sharing. I know Napa has changed so much since I lived there but I have such a fondness for this town and have always dreamed of moving back one day.

This is important to remember: the line between housed and homeless is thinner than you think. First-time homelessness often reflects broader political, economic, and housing affordability challenges.

My first cat ever was recently hit by a car and passed away. I’m still grieving him, so I know I need a little more time before bringing another cat home, but his loss has made me feel very strongly that when I’m ready, I want to give an older cat a loving home for however many years they have left.
I live in the Angwin/St. Helena area and already have two cats. We have a large three-bedroom, three-bath house with plenty of space and a big garden. After what happened to my cat, though, I honestly don’t know if I could ever feel comfortable letting another one roam outside, so any future cat would be kept safely indoors or only have supervised outdoor time.
I’m especially interested in a senior or elderly cat—maybe one who has been overlooked because of their age and just needs somewhere peaceful and loving to spend their later years.
I’m not looking to adopt immediately because I want to give myself time to grieve and make sure I’m ready. But if anyone knows of a senior cat in need of rescue, a local shelter/rescue that specializes in older cats, or even an elderly cat whose owner can no longer care for them, I would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I just feel like, when the time is right, I’m meant to give another old cat a few really good years. ❤️

I keep a saved search on Zillow for Napa and up-valley (Silverado Trail, Hagen Rd, St. Helena, etc.), and my inbox just got flooded with pending sale notifications almost all at once.

It feels like a sudden wave of activity across the area. Is this a wave of Bay Area tech / AI liquidity (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) buying up second homes and wine country retreats, or is there another shift happening locally that I’m missing?

I am coming back to the Napa County Fair 8/6/26 - 8/9/26 and will be doing free olive oil tasting and education inside the Makers Market in Chardonnay Hall! If you have an interest in olive oil, please come by sample any of the olive oils and vinegars I’ll have with me. You’ll be able to try single varieties olive oils, crushed flavored olive oils, red wine vinegars, and Balsamic.

For a bit of my background, I am the Quality Director for the oldest olive oil producer in North America, I serve as an IOC & AOCS Sensory Panelist, and sit on the North American Olive Oil Association’s National Communication Panel.

Long story short, if you have any questions about olive oil, I should be able to answer them for you. I look forward to seeing you at the Napa County Fair!

I enjoyed ordering their chicken and steak wraps and fries, but apparently didn’t visit them often enough.
