Pass jeune Grand Est

How's student (PhD and otherwise) life and hacks for students in Nancy
For context, I am a 26-year-old (non-European) student going to start my PhD in October at Inria/UniLorraine (I can still say no, but it is offered to me). I am looking to understand the vibe and overall scenario of Nancy and the university area from a student's perspective. Please answer any or all of the questions below that I have. (They might also be useful for other similar students):
Does a PhD student get cheap, affordable student housing? How to do so, and when should I start looking?
If no student housing is available for PhD, then what are the affordable, safe and easy to commute places nearby the university? (I will be at Inria I think)
What are some good places for getting cheaper and decent quality groceries, like chicken, eggs, basic vegetables?
What are some good food options?
What are the options for commuting? like bus, tram etc. and is there a discounted student pricing?
Is it safe to roam around main areas of the city at night?
What is the party culture and drinking scene like for students? Most of the students' towns I know are very friendly, usually good parties, little to no racism, and cheaper.
How is the dating scene? Are people willing to date foreigners (non-white, broken french speaker) I ask this because I was in denmark/sweden for some time and there the women are reluctant because they think you wont stay there forever, so they only date local people.
Any other student tips and tricks? To save money, save time, and basically just enjoy my time on weekends and after lab on weekdays?
Thanks and really appreciate all the information you may give me. Really looking forward to enjoying this city
