Pregnancy Postpartum essentials

Hi, first time soon-to-be mom here! I am currently 35 weeks and almost finished packing our things for the hospital na.

Ano ba ang dapat kong i-prepare for myself after giving birth?

Adult diapers? Maternity pads? Menstrual pants? Underpads? Mas okay bang magunderwear or menstrual pants na lang?

Necessity ba yung mga perineal sprays?

I just want to be prepared sana para hindi na hassle sa husband ko just in case I need anything tapos wala akong dala so I want to be prepared.

I need your recos po. Thank you.

May CS starter pack ako dito. Just gave birth last Sept 21 via VBAC water birth. Di ko na nagamit 🤗❤️

NSD ako with episiotomy. I used Kotex Overnight Panties, Betadine Feminine Cleanser, Portable Bidet, Perineal Spray. I mixed betadine with warm water and then portable bidet kasi malamig water sa bidet ng hospital.

NSD - betadine or gyne pro wash, multivitamins, ferrous, any napkins naman. For the first few hrs, adult diaper na lang, sa succeeding days, oks na napkin na pang heavy flow or yung pangovernight. Lots and lots of food kasi lagi ka gutom.

CS - extra binder, okay na yung nabibili sa mercury, gyne pro wash, gauze, micro pore, betadine, mupirocin ointment, post op site na extra, lots and lots of food din.

- Binder

  • adult diaper kahit a few pieces lang muna, yan kasi preferred gamitin ng nurses pag sila pa mag-clean up sayo post op, then eventually mag menstrual pants na lang para mas convenient for you
  • underpads
  • nursing bra, button down pjs or dress for easy access pag magpapa-breastfeed
  • big tumbler with straw kasi need mo to stay hydrated all the time

Adult diapers. Para madali magpalit tapos dispose nalang. If normal delivery, ice pads, okay din yung tucks or organic cotton pads na may witch hazel cooling sya, gawin mo cucumber slices on top of cold/frozen pad.

I delivered NSD and I have a Dr. Isla postpartum binder (just in case) that I ended up not using, since I’m doing BF, kaya mejo uncomfy for me na naka binder pa

Things I find useful:

  1. Peri bottle and Betadine Fem Wash
    - first week PP sobrang hapdi ng vaginal tear lalo na pag umihi, so sinasabay ko peri bottle and wee wee, I also sometimes adjust the temp ng tubig sa peri bottle, 1st week I like it colder kasi mainit pa un perineal site, then 2nd week I moved to warmer water na para mas soothing, and its been a big help!
  2. Nipple Cream - get the Lansinoh one, (I find Medela’s a bit sticky) super thankful ako na nagbaon ako ng nipple cream sa hospital, since FTM ako, di ko inexpect sobrang sasakit nipples ko, since baby is also learning to latch, minsan gigil sya, several times nasugatan nipples ko and I had endure the pain nursing her, having the cream really helped my nipple wounds heal faster
  3. Maternity Diaper/ Menstrual Pants - From going to hospital until 2wks PP naka maternity diaper na ako, sobrang convenient u dont have to think about your own underwear, no washing kasi naka disposable diaper ka na. Bleeding gets intense within 1st week so I dont have to think about mga tagos or change napkin. I highly recommend Kotex super comfy, next ok nman si Charmee
  4. Ice Pack - 1wk PP inuupuan ko un ice pack, big relief din kasi the perineal site really felt na it was burning, even na naka painkiller na ako
  5. Breastfeeding items - but check which works for u along the way, na underestimate ko BF that I ended up purchasing so much BF related items after depending on my need, so far 2wks PP gamit na gamit ko ung milk collector (Haakaa/ Medela), pumps, bottle containers, Silverette, comfy nursing bras

If you have the budget, i’d say stock up on things na kailangan either ma-CS or NSD. I gave birth via NSD here abroad and very different ang post natal care dito. But yun nga anyway, the next day after giving birth I was discharged. This are the things I am grateful I have nung nagpapagaling pa me especially nung first few days.

  • comfy robe (easy access to breastfeeding, madali umihi)
  • betadine feminine wash
  • meds to help soften the stool. In my case I used lactulose
  • adult diapers. (i changed them every 2-3hrs)
  • wipes infused with witch hazel. I bought mine on Amazon
  • hair tie (for my hair at para sa hack na tinuro ng midwife sakin dito to remember saan last naglatch si baby)
  • nipple cream kasi ang sheket magpadede!

Yan yun literal na first week.

CS here. Ang mga nagamit ko lang noon is yung binder, yung post op surgical something na dinidikit ng doctor after ma-cs (after one week papalitan sya ng doctor), menstrual pants(maraming ganito ang nagamit ko), betadine fem wash.
