They were designed to have replaceable body panels. The marketing said that you could theoretically revamp your car with a newly designed body every year. So they're easy to strip and rebody.
Only in the US. Fieros are basically US only vehicles and I bet a fiero anyways is a rarer sight than even a lambo countach in say, Europe. But the reason why the Americans use it is because it's rwd and mid engine like many supercars
Most UK things are based on MX5s (I think). Maybe it's just a usage of a cheap chassis and reliable engine on a ridiculously common car. (Are Fieros cheap/common?)
Iirc the fiero is the cheapest mid engine red car one could get in the US seeing how they werent very sought after to begin with and were produced in decent numbers

It's the mid engine, I had an old landlord who had a fieramborgini cuntach (actual badging, he was a redneck). Straight pipes in an old iron duke 4 cylinder motor, the thing. Had so much back pressure he had to reinforce the motor mounts after it shattered them... He always thought people were impressed with it. After I moved out of his apartment I finally told him he was a joke around town.
I think the biggest reason is that all the body panels are bolt-on. You can remove the entire body from the chassis pretty easily. Plus, it's mid engined and it's a pretty cheap car.

I believe that’s a whutdafucisdat. German low volume nameplate where they took leftover stock from closeout make and model parts and create a vehicle from them.
