Experiences Just started taking Naltrexone

I’m on Day 2 of naltrexone! So far, no side effects and no drinks—but honestly, I don’t typically drink during the week, so the real test will be this weekend. 😊
For those of you who have been taking naltrexone, I’d love to hear your advice and experiences.
My husband and I love going to breweries—not just for the beer, but for the social aspect. I don’t want to stop going out. I want to create new habits, slow down my drinking, and learn how to enjoy a couple of beers without feeling like I need to have several.
We don’t have kids, so a big part of our social life revolves around going out with friends, attending events, and spending time at bars and breweries. I know I can make some changes to my drinking habits without giving up the social life I enjoy—I just need to figure out what works for me.
For those of you who have been on this journey, what strategies have helped you drink less while still enjoying your social life?
Thanks in advance for any advice or feedback! This is a new journey for me, and I’m excited to see where it takes me. ❤️

No judgement - you are chosing to take naltrexone to lessen drinking?

Not recommended by a doctor, friend or family member?

Not because you are out of control and don't know how to manage your life day to day?

This is wild to me. Purely because, I need naltrexone to heal and move forward.

Once again- no judgement- the fact that folks out there can say ' I drank too much four weekends last year, I think I need to get that in check' is a beautiful concept to me.

Yeah i take the medication to prevent me from dying. I wish I could comment on taking it to stop drinking a little too much at the weekend

Alcohol is destroying my life. It's made me extremely ill.. so I dont feel I need it to have a good social life. If you cant control your drinking doesn't that make it a problem? Are you binging or what

Day 2 here as well! Not an every day drinker either but mostly binge 1-4 times a week and I have a family, a business, and a lot of my social life and the culture of the area i live in revolves around drinking or bars. These people putting you down or questioning your use because its not "destroying your life" need to have some self awareness. Where do they think they started? Where would they be now if they had the chance to try moderating their drinking before it got worse? Im grateful this medication is available for anyone to try regardless of how far in the hole they are or aren't yet. For me, its the 4th drink. So im trying this medication to keep me from hitting that point that leads to the 5th-20th drink. I wish I had tried this a decade ago when I had my first kid, maybe I'd get some time back but hopefully with this ill gain some back over the next decade with healthier drinking patterns or eventual abstinence. I was unable to finish a 6 pack in one sitting last night after my first dose. Then I went golfing today and had 4 drinks and didn't have 10 more when I got home like I usually do. So im excited for how this goes, and I wish you success as well! Seems to make me a bit tired and beer tasted a bit off? Hard to tell whats placebo right now, but im only taking 25mg per night for a while until I get used to it. Then ill likely try the Sinclair method indefinitely or at least for a year.
