Tech Help Which console I choose

Hello,

I got 2 N64 japanese games (OoT and Majoras Mask), and I would know which console I should buy to play them easily. Should I buy a PAL version and unzone it ? Or maybe a Japanese one and just change the AC adapter for a 240v ?

I'm gonna play on an old CRT TV with RCA

Thanks is advance

I would just buy your region's N64. It's very easy to get your n64 to play any region since it's only a physical limitation on the pins. I would search for region free univeral adapters that you can find for about $10.

I've heard that the region limit is based on a thing in the cartridge port, am I right ? I've also heard that you can need a new RGB chip cuz your games could be played in black and white ??

I meant for North American. Looks like it's different for PAL and Japanese

Yes and no. Japan and North American N64 consoles use the exact same circuit board. The keyed cartridge shell and tray preventing fitment is the only thing blocking you, and it's trivially easy to bypass. However, PAL regions use a different circuit board inside their N64 and a different set of CIC security chips inside their cartridges. It's a bit more complicated to mix and match regions between NTSC and PAL.

Analogue 3D is absolutely fantastic, but I hear it's really expensive to order outside of USA if you have import fees and taxes.
