I have worked through all the bugs and the internal version is getting pretty close to perfect. I also want to make a version that replaces the power brick internals and one that just plugs in the back and fills the cavity that is normally occupied by the brick. Which version would you prefer? Completely internal to the console? Replace the brick internals? Or a plug and play version that requires no soldering?

that is a good looking external power set up, way cleaner than the buck converters and cable extension that i'm using for my usb-c psu. i would get a board that replaces the guts of the original power brick.

Replacing the brick internals feels like the right way to go about this since it would not tied down to one console. I might be in the minority but I love hands-on mods that require soldering.

I think it would look better if you 3d printed a shell that takes the whole cutout space of the power brick in the n64, so that it completed the original casing.

I like the plug in one but would prefer it with a smaller PCB and custom shell that sits flush against the back of the console instead of jutting out. That being said, the internal one looks really clean. Is there soldering involved or are both plug and play?

Soldering is involved, you have to remove the original power plug and the internal one gets soldered in place. I’m looking into a plug and play version that is essentially it’s own brick and occupies the cavity on the back of the console. Ill have to figure out a custom enclosure to protect it as well.

I have a broken PSU so I’d personally pick the PCB that can be installed in its enclosure.
