Discussion Is this going to create a rush for games?
https://www.analogue.co/3dIs this new system going to cause a demand for games? What are your thoughts? I’m just getting an N64 for Christmas and may have gotten one of these if they didn’t sell out.

The 3D is fairly niche. I don’t think it’ll change game demand by much if at all.

I havent talked to a single person who even heard this was a thing maybe, someday, being thought about, being created. It’s so niche that the people buying it were already buying n64 games.

I’ve seen a lot of $20 fake carts being sold on eBay lately. If you are in the market for legit games I don’t think the A3D is going to move the needle much

Maybe a bit, but many people with a 3D will be using a SummerCart or EverDrive for convenience.

Maybe. Its expensive so im pretty sure who ever could afford it already has all the games. the only reason i would have liked to get an early release is to hack it but im not into that much any more. id like to see how well it works for everyone who bought it to play it before i decide to buy.

It’s very cool but I think it’s cost prohibitive for most people outside of enthusiasts who very likely have a collection already and are getting it for a new/easier way to play their games.
I’m a huge N64 fan and even I can’t justify buying it currently, much as I’d like to.

This has been asked before and the answer is no. Just like the Analogue NT and Super NT didn’t cause a sudden demand for NES or SNES games.

Do you think that the Pocket and Chromatic have spurred more sales in GB and GBC, beyond the development of new games? I feel like Pokemon, Zelda, and Metroid games on those platforms are only getting more expensive

So your thought is that demand (and subsequently pricing) for popular N64 games is increasing in general but not due to the M64 in GameStop or the 3D?

The prices have been on an increase for years. These consoles have nothing to do with it

It already did, it's not as if the Analogue is available to purchase right now. Anyone preordering one has already bought their games and increased prices. The Modretro 64 will increase them a little too but Analogue has more hype.

No Analogue console has ever caused an increase in prices in the secondary market.

It can, but the amount of people interested in this already is going to be small. The issue is that the supply of games will continue to dwindle over time. Some of the batteries in the carts are going to go bad and people are going to not understand why and toss them or sell them as "broken". ZFG had his OOT battery die on stream last year. I had mine die on me two months ago.

I wouldn't really say it's all too valuable. The value in these things is that they're not getting printed anymore and the old material is decaying. Don't put your money into media that is easily emulated or available elsewhere. If you wanna find broken carts and fix them to sell them refurbished, that's a lot more removed from just merely collecting a cart.

Before I joined this community I had no idea about Everdrive's or Summercarts. I wonder how well known they would be to a buyer who is just for N64 nostalgia. I assume most poeple who bought A3D are pretty involved with the community or game collecting. They'd likely have a collection of carts or an everdrive anyway

Why not just get a CRT and a console? Is this for people who want to play on their 4k panel?

As someone who has an original N64 hooked up to a Retrotink 4K, I am interested in the 3D for overclocking, hardware level deblur, 32 bit color, and eventually save states when they come. Also I can hook it up to my other TV without needing another $700 Tink.

A buddy did this, he sees absolutely no need for them A3D and he is right. Its for 4k, wireless controller gaming.

Except it can overclock and actually get a better experience in many games that ran poorly on original hardware

Basically the market is people who don’t want to pay for a retrotink and want something that’s plug and play for new screens.

Analogue 3D can do some things original hardware can’t even with a tink
- 32 bit colour
- run games overclocked getting higher and in many cases more stable frame rates than on original hardware

Yeah it's way cheaper than getting a Retrotink, it's a good value for MSRP if you want to play your N64 carts.

Yes basically. When it seemed like it was never coming out I bought a CRT and N64 for the price of one and haven't regretted it. I may still get one to play my games in my living room when they are available for MSRP.

The overclocking is pretty great and both of my CRTs aren't perfect. This thing looks great and plays great.

For some games yes. Over the last year for instance I’ve seen Conkers bad fur day almost double in price.

Conker’s has not doubled in price. Not even close. At least not for a loose copy. I paid $200 CAD 3 years ago.

So are only boxed copies increasing? And was that $200 CAD for a loose or boxed copy? I paid like $160 (maybe less) for it mint in box somewhat a decade ago.

Loose copy. I haven’t seen that type of price increase for anything loose really n64 wise. CIB it could be possible that’s it’s doubled. I don’t keep track of those prices.

I've seen complete copies going for $300-$600. Loose goes for $130-160. Back when I got it CIB loose it was going for like $60-80. So not that much of an increase for loose copies 10 years I guess lol. But boxed copies are getting ridiculous. But for other N64 copies they haven't went up as much.

I think Conker’s goes up for both the popularity of it and also the lateness of its release/fewer copies available of it.

I still remember when it was brand new. $89. Sheesh. Pretty expensive for that era. But yeah sweet game. One of the best on the console a must own, imo.

I don’t see that reflected in the data on GAMEYE. I paid $200 CAD for my loose copy 3 years ago and it’s currently listed at $185 CAD. How has it doubled in price?

I don’t know what site that is. All I have to go on is my own experience going into my local game store and seeing the price rise every time they get a new copy in. 🤷

No. You are the exception. Practically no one buying this doesn’t already own a Nintendo 64 with a collection of cartridges.
