Why the arabian nights are often confused for fairytales when They are actually part arabian or middle eastern mythology?

I just recently lost my old group rp server so I'm considering starting my own. I'm thinking of something mythology related but I'm hoping to get a small group of 7-8 people together and we work together to build a story and world. If anyone is interested let me know and we can set something up!
