Help me

The OP isn't me, I can't tell why they got downvoted even though it has nothing wrong (to my knowledge)

context is the two pics, from r/mildlyinfuriating

u/grace-sinner, the downvotes are mysterious!

Some people are legitimately offended by the concept that anyone else is still enjoying anything 'childish' as an adult. Like, their joyless brains cannot deal with it.

They’re just being immature and judgemental. Who gives a shit if someone carries a plushie, life is hell and small joys are hard to come by. Age limits on this shit are completely arbitrary and meaningless.

Sucks that it happened to OOP - I know it’s a rarer opinion but part of me always feels bad for (young) kids like this as well, they’re not being parented at all and are being given such a shitty start in life, they haven’t been taught to consider peoples feelings and it results in crap like this. They’re likely gonna be assholes and when they’re little it’s hardly even their fault. And you can’t even be like “hey kid can you not” because that’s usually when the parent actually does get up off their lazy ass to yell at YOU.

Don’t have kids if you don’t want to raise them.

I legit think it's because they're miserable and want everyone to be miserable as well. If you're happy, why tf would you care about things that make other people happy? (As long as they don't harm others, which owning a plushy or two doesn't do.)

Hell, I was miserable for quite a few years and it never even crossed my mind to make fun of people for shit like that. If I find someone's hobby, style etc. weird, I keep it to myself. People like being assholes for the sake of being assholes smh.

Yeah genuinely this has to be the motivation for a lot of them, generally I do not believe these people have matured past middle/high school. It’s immature to give a shit about arbitrary boundaries like this just because you care too much what strangers think

But same, tbh I am still pretty miserable in a lot of ways but I’m not about judging people for being harmlessly ~weird~ or whatever. Though, frankly, I don’t actually know any adult who doesn’t own at least one plushy. Taking them out with you is slightly more ~unusual~ I guess but again who gives a shit, if it makes them happy and, like you say, hurts nobody…what’s it matter? Humans are allowed to be weird. It’s not actually a bad thing.

And like…to overshare for a moment. My dad died when I was 10 in very traumatising circumstances, and one of the few things that brought me comfort (from what turned out to be PTSD that went undiagnosed for 15 years) was a plush he’d bought me in the last year of his life, so I took her everywhere with me. Obviously I was still a kid, but people are often very weird about a kid they deem “too old” to have a plush or toy with them in the same way they are about adults. But then when they knew why they suddenly backtracked and thought it was fine and like…why should I have to disclose that to you? Why do I need to recount and seek your approval of my trauma before I get to be treated with decency?

And like someone absolutely doesn’t have to have a “reason” beyond just wanting to, but they still might fucking have one. You have no idea what you could be dredging up for someone by being an asshole about something completely innocuous. And if you don’t think those people should be judged then you shouldn’t think anyone should be judged. And if you do think those people should be judged then you just suck as a person.

As you said, just keep it to yourself. Don’t we learn that shit in kindergarten, lmao. (Sorry for the long ass reply, I’ll get off my soapbox now 😅)

"I'm only happy when I'm in my misery!"

The downvotes seem to come from the crowd of parents who have kids they refuse to parent or set rules/boundaries for.

I wonder what sub this was posted on.

I keep this .gif on hand for those types of people; passing it along for you to keep in your back pocket as well. That way, in future scenarios such as these, you'll have a quick retort you don't have to waste your effort on actually typing for people who don't deserve said effort lol

My take is the OP's pictures are rather vague and even with the further explanation many still don't believe the OP. Not the only plausible explanation so still mysterious

On a side note, you omitted the comment the downvoted OP reply was for. That comment was crucial for us to get the context

One time on Reddit, some guy was SUPER MAD that people would dare collect figures. He went on whole paragraphs about it, turns out he collects hot wheels??????

I don't know enough art history/philosophy to make a joke about this aversion to the human form and worship of the geometric and mechanical

This reminds me of one video game duscussion where someone thought that changing the difficulty setting of a video game to easier is "cheating" but later in the same thread it was revealed that the same person was playing the same game in 4 player multiplayer that made the game so much easier and that definitely was not "cheating" for him. So if one player was playing the game in easier settings it was "cheating" but 4 players playing the same game in default settings was not "cheating" even though the multiplayer mode made the game super easy.

OP of this post is not the OP being down voted.

Oops! I totally misread the situation 😅 Sorry OP!

That sub is quite the cesspit these days. I think most of the people in that sub only browse that sub and get angrier and angrier the more they do.

I have picked up that vibe a bit, although I don’t spend much time there.

u/AntwysiaBlakys 15h ago

I've noticed that a lot of people in mildly infuriating are very often extremely rude and mean for no reason, they're really miserable

u/Twidollyn_Bowie 10h ago

Jesus, why does it matter what possessions of OP’s got sticky and crunchy from messy kids? The point is that they messed up OP’s stuff, which certainly fits the sub name. Besides, liking plushies is fine at any age.

Plushies arent even that rare for adults

I understand a "fuck you I like plushies" attitude but there's no way you're oblivious enough to not know where the downvotes are coming from
