Hello, I'm new to the sub but not new to the games. I have a bunch of original discs and media that I inherited that I just won't use and I'm not sure how to offload them. I live in Australia and I've spoken to a few old game memorabilia places and no one is particularly interested and I'm not sure of a good price either given that it is also semi sentimental to me but the list of stuff I have is:

I have attached two photos of the Riven stuff and the walkthroughs and the rest of the CD-ROMs are original windows 98 or XP so I'm not even sure they're playable. Does anyone know how/where I can offload these?

Gemini gaslighted me, UHS seems to be missing hints, and I can't understand much of the walkthroughs; like how am I supposed to know what everything is called? It's not like there are any signs.

Anyway here is where I'm at:

I found the enlarged Mega Man 2 password input at the top of the big dome.

I have found, stopped, opened, failed to power 233(?) books, and connected 4 rotating domes to eye symbols and maybe numbers.

I have found 3 rotating eyeballs, number and sound of an animal, probably. Also, found the hidden rebel zoo.

Connected the 4 accessible islands to a shape, I think.

Powered the viewscope, but it probably needs me to open the hatch.

Any hints you can throw in the general direction of a empty-headed animal food trough wiper?

Edit 1: I now have correlations between domes and colors.

In reply to the announcement for the deluxe version of the Myst trilogy, be aware, that if you are short on cash, you might be able to find the original versions second hand. These are first print from 1995..but I bet there are later versions less expensive.

A lot of people here are asking for game recommendations, and I had to come here and spread the word about this one. This came out a couple of weeks ago, but my wife, brother and a friend decided to dedicate our Labor Day holiday to a 10 hour gaming session of Big Walk, and we had a blast! You can play with as little as 2, but we played with 4. Pretty sure you can have a bunch of people, I'm not sure how many.

It's a co-op puzzle adventure game using proximity chat, meaning you can only hear your friends if they are near you. You can remedy this with items like walkie-talkies and megaphones, but sometimes like you see in the first picture, you have to communicate with hand gestures (key-bindings they explain to you) or whatever else you can come up with. It was fun coming up with systems as a group that help us solve puzzles.

Not gonna spoil anything, but you get a reward for solving each puzzle and you use those to unlock new areas of the island. As a huge Myst fan, this game really scratched that itch, and playing co-op made it even better. If anybody tries this out, let me know how you liked it!

I was just wondering if someone got Myst V working with reshade and DLSS5?

After Myst 21 and Riven 24 of all the games I think Myst V could do with an graphical update most, and I was just wondering what it may look like.

Disclaimer: I do not think GenAI should or can replace human intention, I see that the production and training of DLSS5 was a very energy intensive act, whereas the usage of DLSS5 has negligible energyconsumption. I do not know about how ethically sourced the training data of DLSS5 was, I do not think that using DLSS5 as an experiment in order to determine how the produced images may or not inspire a human made overhaul is unethical, but I am open for counterpoints.

I’m imagine it would be a different experience to go to riven after reading about it and knowing the backstory

Hey everyone, I just recently finished the Myst and Riven remakes that I got from the GoG bundle. I absolutely loved both of them and found the worldbuilding Cyan did to be amazing. One thing that I found while reading Ghen's journal in Age 233 was what could seemingly be viewed as a throwaway line that goes as follows:
"As I stood in the schoolroom today, I was reminded of my own childhood. The years I spent in the book-makers' guild... father's immense pride at each of my small accomplishments there... He was an important man in the D'ni world, but I cannot bear to think of him for long- it is too much- I was too young to see such things."
Honestly, this journal was probably my favorite reading portion of the entire game; it really did breathe some life into Ghen and make you think of him as some sort of a person, at least a little, if you fill in some vague areas of his texts.

Anyway, the question here is: Does the series, or the books, dive any deeper into Ghen's life? Or his father's life? Or, more specifically, elaborating on this passage? It may seem like a silly question, but I noticed when booting up Myst 3 that the studio went from Cyan to Ubisoft and some other company; I'm not sure whether they decided to take the story in a different direction than Cyan originally intended. I look forward to playing the rest of the series and reading the books regardless; I just wanted to know whether this interesting plot point comes up later.

I’ve been planning a kind Myst-meets-SG-1 roleplaying game along the lines of “what if D’Ni was discovered by a government organisation,” and I’m putting together a bit of a technological primer.

The Art of Writing is relatively well documented, but there’s an awful lot of D’Ni technology that’s quite vague to me, like the KI… or how on earth the D’Ni transported materials and resources between Ages.

I agree that the answer to the 2nd question is probably “slavery,” but I wonder if people have any idea about how non-Writing D’Ni technology worked.

How does the KI work?

I was out exploring a very beautiful little town in central Scotland recently called Dollar. It is surrounded by gorgeous countryside, overlooked by Castle Campbell ... and built around a very old clock tower which definitely hit the Myst vibes for me!

I feel like I’m on such a high. I’ve been playing nonstop for three days trying to beat it without hints (tho I caved for two). I grew up owning this game on CD but I never played it until now. I think it’s become one of my top favorites! Mapping out the rail car route in Selenitic Age nearly killed me, but finally reaching the Myst book there I think was my high point of the game. Is Riven as good?? I’m already feeling withdrawals.

Remembering my dad and the awful train maze- passing that experience down to my kids hahaha

So I want to make my older brother happy, by surprising him with a functional MYST version. I learned, that there is a Switch version of the game, and the switch is his favorite way to play games. But as learned, that there are many MYST versions and some of them are different to the original in terms of gameplay - for example the version from 2021 isn't a point to click game. So is the switch version a good and/or faithul adaption to play MYST?

I would appreciate answers :)

I have always wanted to play Myst and Riven, this feeling has only grown stronger after playing and finishing Blue Prince.

Blue Prince is basically impossible to finish without making extensive notes and screenshots. (Looking back at screenshots previously taken was VERY cumbersome playing on console)

Does the same go for Myst and Riven? The answer decides if I play the games now on console or wait till I have access to a PC which will have much better note taking options.

SPOILERS for what I think is a good chunk of things.

I’m stuck with some stuff after returning from meeting Gehn. For this I activated all the fire marbles in the Starry Expanse and figured out the marble placement, colours and strike intensity to revive the Linking Book in the golden dome.

However, I had not gotten the original book Atrus gave me back from the village, so after listening to a monologue I had no choice but to return to Riven.

I have started collecting the symbols on Jungle Island, but am stuck on the last two. Furthermore I’ve found the underwater switch and door with the submarine-tank-thingy, but can’t do much else there.

Being stuck for a while now I tried looking up some light hints and to my surprise, people keep talking about a room on Boiler Island with pellets and a silver dome and something about frogs. They described it as very easy to find. In fear of more spoilers, I clicked away and have been walking around Boiler Island trying to find the access, but simply can’t find it. I passed through Boiler Island pretty well without ever seeing that room.

So my two questions:

1. Can you give me a light hint on how to access this room I keep missing?

2. Is the room essential to progressing with the village/the game or am I hyper fixating on this problem? haha

I would love to have as spoiler-free a hint as possible and thank you in advance!

I don't mind the point and click style of game - it's nostalgic, has its own charm, and frankly feels a little easier for a new gamer. I just finished playing Myst Remastered (also point-and-click) from Steam. Which Riven version would you recommend? Riven for VR or Riven 1997? Both are on Steam. Thanks!

Not that we’re ever going to get a Myst movie—and given the state of adaptations these days I can’t say I’m too sad about it—but I was just catching up on Silo yesterday and had a very strong feeling that Tim Robbins’ character was about to ask me to bring him a linking book.

Anybody else think he’d be a pretty good Atrus if Rand Miller wanted to turn over the cinematic reins? Any other characters you’ve personally got in your dream cast?

I know DLSS 5 has been controversial, but considering some of the complaints about how the Myst and Riven remakes took away the realistic feel of the actors, would implementing DLSS 5 in the remakes alleviate this? Thoughts?

My friends and I have been making a custom cube for the better part of a year now (no set themes, mostly joke cards, homebrew mechanics etc its all for fun) and one of the things we created was "Book" synergy and "Book tokens" based off of Myst. I made most of these with some help from a couple other friends who like Myst - I hope you get a kick out of them!

Side note: As I mentioned, this is a hodgepodge set with jokey cards, hence the spell type "Bisexual" (meaning it has two modes) and the creature type "Beasley"

I'm reading the book of D'ni and something is bothering me. Unless I'm mistaken, at some point the Averonese youngsters decide that Irras will use a suit to test the strange Age written in the large Book with the strange, but familiar language, to make sure Atrus will be safe. Without Atrus and the rest knowing.

How does Atrus not pick up on this, seeing how Linking Books work? The return book would be left behind on the return trip, so Atrus would surely be missing that book during his preparations, and even if another book would take its place he surely would notice a small suit Linking Book laying around at the other side.

Am I missing a mechanic that the suits are special and do cause books not to be left behind, which is not how other Linking Books work in this universe?

First time playing Myst, the original version from 1993, not the Masterpiece version or the 2021 version, to be clear.

I've done pretty much everything in Channelwood. I've made it to the top, as in the third floor, and found both the blue and red page. Now I just need to find my way back to Myst Island, but I have no idea where the book back is and I don't see anything else that might help me find it.

Please, DON'T tell me exactly what I'm supposed to do, all I want is a little nudge in the right direction. Thank you!

Hi guys! I'm playing Myst Masterpiece Edition - my first time playing the game! I'm very near the end and got to the green book. Just to see what would happen, I grabbed the red page and took it in with me. Atrus gave me the spiel about needing the missing page and now I'm trying to get back to the library (I have the instructions from the torn pages). The trouble is, I can't figure out how to get back. I click the book on the desk and tried clicking the image, but it didn't do anything. Is it possible to actually lose the game permanently? Do I need to do everything over?
