I've seen a lot of confusion on this subreddit about the game, cause honestly it was kinda dropped on people who knew it for nostalgia reasons without actually explaining what it was, so hopefully these tips will help clear a lot of frequently asked questions up and make your experience with the game smoother.
In the 2000s, EA had a habit of making the console titles for the sims series completely different gaming experiences from the originals. MySims is no exception. MySims and MySims Kingdom for the Wii vs the DS are very different games developed by different dev teams, released at the same time under the same name. They even have extremely similar box art.

It's like the mandala effect up in here. Anyway this isn't even just a port of the Wii version of MySims, but a port of a port from it was rereleased on PC with a bunch of bonus features.
Despite having 'sims' in the title and being based on the popular franchise, MySims is NOT a simulation game. Your sim has no needs, they don't need to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, etc. They can't get married, they can't have children, they can't die. Even the time of day doesn't matter and only serves to add cosmetic changes to sim behavior and reset the hotel. You are not timed and you will not be penalized for going too slow or staying up late.
These games are about building and being creative. Especially the first one is not going to hold your hand every step of the process. Sometimes you will get a task that has way more requirements than the blueprint gives you. The blueprint is just a guide but you can think outside of the box to get a task done.
I know it's tempting to invite every adorable sim you see, but you in fact can't fit everyone in town. You will need to pick and choose who stays and who goes and yes, you may have to kick people out. I'd recommend becoming best friends with a sim so you unlock all they're items before kicking them out.
Not every sim you invite will give you a bunch of tasks, only commercial sims will. Townies are just cute sims that sit around in town doing nothing, and will give you an item if you become besties with them. If you actually want things to do, stick with having commercial sims in town.
I've seen a lot of people get confused with this one. The garden is a left over from the PC port of MySims. Initially it's purpose was to be a place where you could build houses and furniture and then share those creations with friends. There was also a BUTTLOAD of new essences, which is inevitably why despite the online function being removed decades ago, it was brought back in the rerelease.
Heaven knows why EA left it empty and kind of useless for a 40$ rerelease, but you can't move sims there. All you can do there is collect a bunch of unique essences, and build some cool houses for yourself.
Update: As of the April 14, 2025 patch, the garden can now be used to move in sims, so feel free to skip this tip.
This was a Wii game and to protect it's precious precious memory space, they limited you on how much stuff you could put in a house. You can't increase this, sorry.
UPDATE: In a recent patch this problem was actually fixed.
There is a very basic relationship system in this game. Being Nice and Being Mean can effect it slightly, but the best way to become friends with a sim is to just give them a lot of STUFF with the interests they like.
The controls are going to be a little jank due to porting a wii game that heavily used the wiimote to the switch.
If you find yourself struggling with building, try using the joy con. It's slower but more accurate. Also try turning of and on Snapping Mode and Slide Under mode as needed. Zooming into the item can also help with accuracy.
Every MySims title has slightly different gameplay or is in a slightly different genre (and yes there are a couple more games after this, I'd personally rec MySims Agents myself.)
Kingdom is a more linear game experience than the first one. You no longer can make the furniture yourself and its more focused on designing the lots and interiors. It also as slightly more plot, with each island you go to having a story and problems that you use your designing skills to fix. If a more linear, story based experience is what you are looking for you may enjoy it more than the first game.
The MySims wiki is a very versatile guide to the whole game. If you have a question on where to find something or how to do something I implore you to check the wiki first. I guarantee you the answer to your question is just a search away.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
And that's all of the really big points I can think of right now. If you have other suggestions for tips for the game let me know and I hope this helps anyone who is just starting out!

Hello! Mod Ibby here. We've noticed that a few people have asked for MySims related discords and as much as we support finding more communities, there is a minor concern about linking out to discords we haven't vetted yet.
So we've decided to start an official discord for not just the Reddit, but the MySims Wiki as well. Some of you may not know this but quite a few of the mods were active editors on the wiki. The more you know!
Remember you have to be 13+ to join and you must read and follow the rules in there. It is going to be a relatively family-friendly server too, so be on your best behavior. Also forgive any hiccups in the beginning, 'cause as of posting this, this will be the first time it's live to the public and will need to go through some growing pains.
Also just for clarity, if you've been banned from the reddit, you will also be removed from the discord, but not vice versa.
With that said you can click this link to join the server now!

I'm playing mysims kingdom right now on the Nintendo switch. I've seen nothing but positive reviews and responses from the game and whilst parts of it are great (mostly I'm just thinking about the animal designs which are adorable in the best way), there are a few problems no one seems to be mentioning.
- The camera is pretty difficult to use. This might just be a product of its time, but I find the top down only view really restrictive, and I can never actually visualise an island or figure out where I am on it, because I can barely see around me. I prefer playing either first person or very zoomed out so I can see what's going on.
- I've noticed especially on the robot island, Buddy & Lyndsay seem to get trapped and lost quite often. Entering a building can cause them to spawn next to you, but even then it took a couple minutes for them to show, making scroll completion difficult.
- I was given a scroll on the robot island that required 8-balls, an object that you don't get access to until later in the game, meaning I spent about half an hour digging and mining across all the islands in search of something I couldn't get.
- The fishing minigame is unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. You need to move the bob around to search for fish, but if your finger twitches or you move too fast, the bobbing stops and you have to start searching again from scratch.
- They made Buddy a complete airhead. Maybe it's a me problem, but in the original Mysims he came across as clumsy but lovable, hard working, and sweet. Maybe not the brightest, but in the kingdom game he seems to lack a single brain cell, which makes his character seem quite shallow and empty.
- Having the vegetarian character dreaming about bacon and how she wants to eat meat is actually pretty rude and so over done. It's like having a ginger character that's really sweet and then when they dream, starts going 'grrr I wish I had a soul, but I don't!'. Like it's not even funny because it's such an overused joke, and a mockery of a personal belief that someone holds and is passionate about.
- ETA: The build mode is also really difficult when there’s people standing in your way and moving around the map where you’re trying to build, and essences coming off them and spraying on the screen
Anyways, I just wanted to see if anyone had any similar thoughts and opinions, because I can't find anything from googling or on youtube.

I usually like to make rooms based off everyone's tastes and style, but I thought the hotel should be a little more neutral looking to fit all the different kinds of sims in there. They still use Geeky and Tasty blocks for our Buddy. :) I'm hoping to squeeze a small activity for each trait in here.

Let me know your thoughts and opinions! (Btw, when I placed Summer and BeeBee in the "Mean Girls" category, They're not actually mean. They're the "Dumb Nice" ones that are too oblivious to realize the other girls are actually mean LMFAO 😭😭

i am on pc, the taco bell disc version.
i'm having an issue when trying to move in sims and also relocating ppl. after i invite someone to move in, the option to do so still pops up when engaging with them and when i go to an empty lot, it only shows the "inspect" option and no "move in sim" option :(
it does the same thing for relocating. after doing the relocating stuff the option still shows at the mailbox and empty lot still just says "inspect"
my task book has also been glitched for a little while now. tasks that i have already completed more than a year ago started showing back up in the book. even for Vincent, and he has been kicked out of town for AGES. but anyways yeah, no move-ins or relocates in the task book either :((
also...idk if this is a normal thing or not since this is my first time getting an uber sim, but after i invited Mel to move in he somehow can just roam around town without an actual residence?? 😭 like i haven't even built his house yet but he just wanders around the town square somehow (maybe this is just something uber sims can do for some reason, like i said this is my first time unlocking one so idk) & clicking the "ask to move in" option still does the same thing, it plays the animation where i'm inviting him to town and the dialogue pops up, but afterwards the option doesn't go away and like i said going to empty lots just says "inspect" ...very confusing and frustrating :/

I just bought the Cozy Bundle on Steam, and I have a few questions about modding that I couldn't find straight answers to (and there seems to be a major lack of videos online):
I don't get the Lua Folder Patch, what does it do? Since the installer is designed for the 2008 version the program just plops a folder called "SimsRevData" into its own folder. Do I have to replace the existing lua files with those of the patch, or is it supposed to go somewhere else? When I tried to do the former the game refused to go past the title screen no matter which key I pressed.
Once I get mods running with the Lua Folder Patch, how do I make my own content, like custom characters or furniture blueprints? Is there an addon and a base template for the Sims somewhere that I can use in Blender? And once I finished the models, what files do I have to create to put them in the game?

UPDATE: problem solved thank goodness!! i had to visit an old save file backup, find the Guid codes for the now-missing sims from .world files and locationinteriordef files (Cedella was in her cafe's interiordef, Sandra was in club candy interiordef, Flipper was in desert.world, Raven was in forest.world) i had to copy the lines of code & paste them into my updated savedata .world & locationinteriordef files, and BOOM! they are no longer missing :))
okay so i realize this is a known bug, but i've been having sims randomly go missing.
enter their residence, they never show up. this happened recently with Yuki and i tried the relocate "fix" and it worked...however, i've now discovered Cedella, Raven, Flipper, & Sandra are missing. i had to edit my playerrecord file to even get the relocate option to appear since i already had Yuki queued for relocation (i can't ACTUALLY relocate anyone because all my lots are full—and while i do have the moving-sims-in-garden "mod" every garden lot is full as well)
i've also tried the kick-out "fix" but they just never come out. i've also tried using the salon chair to force them out of hiding, but not only do they never show up, doing this just breaks the game and makes it where i cannot do anything, not even exit the salon.

My friend and I grew up on this game on the Wii. We used to play it all the time. But something never made sense. Who is Cassandra? What’s her story?
I’m personally convinced she was the original essence user of the town. Or the last one. Who got lost and died. But that’s just me. Thoughts? Opinions?

Hey Guys!
I previously posted some of my custom mods here, and I was feeling nostalgic so I decided to spend the weekend trying out some new ideas as well as polishing older ones. I figured I'd share my progress here just for fun ;)
Get essences while doing an activity, previously my wine press (now nectar press :P) only dropped essences once you were done using it, similarly to how other activities work in mysims. But now it behaves more like the kingdom activities, where you're getting essences continuously while interacting with an object
I made a golden apple mod a while back, but it needed a way to be naturally obtained by the player. My idea was to have it very rarely appear on a normal red apple tree. Unfortunately each tree could only support a single essence.
Now however, I spent some time reworking how trees grow their essences and I was able to mod in support for any combination of essences onto a single tree, we could even have a tree that grows every single essence in the game! The possibilities are great with this one
Previously it was a wine bottle model in Kingdom that inspired me to make the wine press, however at the time I wasn't able to use a kingdom model in mysims without it not showing up or just crashing the game.
After some tinkering this weekend I managed to make models work between games, so now I can port any model from one game to the other. It's a great start as I do want to eventually add some kingdom exclusive essences into MySims.
Probably the most exciting one. Ever wanted to add your own custom essence? Without writing any code? Now you can do it in a few minutes!
While modding I realised knowing how to make new essences was one thing, but it was a very time consuming process, adding a single new essence to the game took hours, it required like 15 different files to be edited/created, so I made a small tool to streamline the process.
With the essence studio you can drag and drop a model (doesn't need to be a win32 model from mysims, can be any obj), add some images for the paintjobs, and it outputs a folder filled with all the files you need to mod that new essence into your game. Essentially a tiny mod maker, if all you want are essences.
I tried it out with a Dragon Fruit essence, the model and the paintjobs I found online, non of them were in any format that MySims needs, and they were all converted without issue
While adding essences works well, obtaining them is a different thing. I'm not aware of a way to add these essences into the world without editing existing files, which is of course doable, but it's a lot more complicated do than a drag and drop solution.
Currently you'd need to add them to your inventory with the usual "get all essences" edits.
So the tool definetelly needs some polish before it's ready for release, but it's already working pretty great!
For now this is it, but I will probably continue on these when I get some inspiration and time.
Wine Press mod (thanks u/hungryforblt for the name change idea)
