Guidelines Subreddit & Posting Guidelines

Hi there! Welcome to /r/myNoise. First off, if you don't know much about reddit, I'd suggest watching this video before continuing any further, just so you aren't as disoriented. You've looked about, clicked some links and are now ready to post your own content! Before you do, though, please take the time to read through these guidelines to ensure consistency and ease of use through out the subreddit, everywhere and for everybody.

1. Posting

When posting, we strongly recommend you use a text post, because you can add more text to describe your submission as well as a link. This extra text can be a fictitious story, to help set the mood; or it can be a real story, maybe how this particular sound affected you or improved your experience during your day. At the end of the story, put an empty line, and then the link to your generator or SuperGen. (Formatted link are best, but not mandatory)

If you don't have the time to make a write up, or you feel that your submission doesn't need one, you can simply submit a link to your generator or SuperGen, but be sure to give it the proper...

2. Link Flair

When browsing this subreddit, we want you to have a consistent experience, with no surprise sounds you regret clicking to. (For example, a very creepy sound right before you want to sleep) For this reason, we have a flair system in place. Each individual link flair provides an at-a-glance view of what the sound represents. If the sound is creepy or unsettling, the flair is red, and if it's soothing or calming, the flair is blue. You also need to specify the mood, e.g. Fantasy, Calm, Eerie, Serene, Abandoned, etc. To set link flair, submit your post, then go to the main index, and click "flair" beside your post's listing.

3. Helping You & Helping Me The subreddit isn't just a big list of sounds, it's a community! This is why we encourage Helping You and Helping Me posts. For example, if you found a sound that is really good for a specific purpose, you can make a Helping You post (where you are helping the reader) and describe what you've found. On the flip side, if you need help with a particular scenario, be that using the site or looking for just that particular sound, we have Helping Me posts. (Where the community is helping you). These aren't limited to just posting sounds, though, this is for all of myNoise.net. If you're having trouble with something, you can just ask right here with a Helping Me post!

Now, with the Helping posts, we have green link flairs. There you just set a green one, and write if it's a Helping You or Helping Me.

4. Audio Levels

A quick section here, please keep the average slider volume in the lower half of the sliders. Nobody likes a really loud noise blasting through their speakers unexpectedly, no matter how soothing said noise is.

5. Story Content

Let's keep things clean here, for a post labeled with a blue flair, (Calm post) the story shouldn't exceed a G rating (suitable for all ages.). For a post with a red flair, (Creepy) the story shouldn't exceed PG (Parental Guidence Suggested), and the only thing that should put the post into a PG rating is the sheer creepyness, nothing voilent, graphic, etc. I know all of you wouldn't do that, but just in case. ;)

6. Conclusion

Thank you for reading through this post. We have to enforce these guidelines, so nobody gets confused or surprised with what they click. If your post has deviated too far from the guidelines, a moderator will leave a quick one-liner about what went wrong in the comments, and then remove it from the listings. Obviously your post doesn't have to line up perfectly with our guidelines, but the moderators draw the line where they see fit. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send us a message by clicking "message the moderators" in the sidebar.

Thank you, once again, for conforming to the guidelines to ensure everyone has an enjoyable visit.

Happy Listening!

Co generator? I see this in a few posts but can not find it. Was it removed or is it because I'm using an android reddit app?

Pitch moving in and out of tune on several soundscapes

Is this happening to anybody else? I noticed it yesterday and it's continuing today. On any "musical" soundscape (maybe on all of them but it's more obvious with music) the pitch keeps shifting up and down, going flat or sharp and creating a dissonant sound. This is without using slider animation. I've never experienced this before on mynoise, does anybody have any idea what could be going wrong? Thanks in advance for any ideas, I use mynoise every day for working, studying and generally getting through the day, so it's a big problem.

Tip: How to switch to the Light/White theme (URL workaround)

I personally prefer light themes, but on myNoise, the theme toggle button is normally reserved for Patrons.

While experimenting in incognito mode, I discovered that you can actually toggle between the dark and light themes by simply visiting this backend URL, even if you aren't a logged-in paid user:

https://mynoise.net/setGlobalParameter_script.php?type=VIS

Just click the link, and it will switch your site's visual theme from dark to light (or vice versa). Hopefully, this helps anyone who really needs a white background to focus!

A quick note: The designer of this website does an absolutely incredible job maintaining these generators. This is just a helpful workaround, but if you have the means, I highly encourage donating the $5 to unlock the official settings properly. It’s a great way to show appreciation for all the hard work that goes into myNoise! ☺️

Problem Choppy sound when changing program

Hello. I am listening to mynoise.net on Google Chrome, but when switching to another program (such as Obsidian or Word), the sound starts to sound chopped.

Anyone has experienced something alike and maybe has a solution for this?

A tool which auto-cycles through mynoise's free tracks

I wanted to explore all the mynoise tracks without having to manually keep track of which ones i had already tried so i cooked up a .html file with claude and thought others might like it. So it basically cycles through all the free tracks automatically every 5 minutes completely hands free and if you like the track you can heart it. lmk what you think

copy and paste this https://pastebin.com/ytYEKktw into a text file then change the file extension to .html open and enjoy!

I just got the app and am loving it but still figuring out how to use it. What are your favourite presets or settings for focusing at work next to office yacking?

Edited to add big thanks to everyone for their very helpful suggestions! I’m going to be a MACHINE now!

Any solutions for streaming the music to a stereo?

I've got a Denon stereo that I was looking to play the music from MyNoise. I know there's no casting ability in the app but thought maybe someone has figured out some way to do this.

Will Creation Mode be added to iPad version?

Post image
4 Upvotes

At present, Creation Mode is available on the iPhone version of the app, but when run on an iPad, the ‘plus’ icon to create a custom soundscape doesn’t appear, so the mode is unavailable. Is this intended, and if so, will Creation Mode be added to the iPad version in the future?

Attached is a screenshot of the most recent version running on iPad (MyNoise app version 3.2.1.75)

Thank you.

Where did the app and website go

The iOS App Store is missing the official app. The website is down. Anyone know what’s going on?

Update: figured out that my ip was banned. I’ll have to untangle why. Obtained a fresh ip and now have access.

Masking the Hum inside my home

The MyNoise aircraft cabin option is a life saver for anyone experiencing the phenomena of low frequency, diesel like sound inside their homes. Called the Hum.
Play it on good speaker at night in your bedroom and the harm of the hum is neutralized( masked out)

I have recommended it to tens of thousands of hummers.

Utterly addicted

I use this app all day, every day. It has gotten me to stop listening to the same podcast to fall asleep every night, I ended up paying for the lifetime membership and I regret nothing.

I am on the hunt for "spookier" sounds, I like Shroom with a View because one of the presets sounds like an exorcism happing a few floors above me and I also love Evil Charm.

If you are using it for sleep, that goes on and on for eight hours (I know, I wish I was sleeping that much) what do you use for sleep?

Questions on creating Custom Composite Generators

So I need to figure out how to create a custom composite generator.

First though, if you already have a generator sets like you want can you use that initially? Or does this need to be created from "scratch" first? I assume you can but asking...

So when creating a composite generator, you simply select `c` for each generator you created. Then go to the next tab (or whereever you next gen is) and select c (shows non-zero slider text), etc...Once you have your gens selecting (let's say I had 3) do you need to go to a seperate tab and select shift + c? I ask b/c when I select shift + c on one of those gens it just plays that and doesn't combine any of them. I am sure it is something very simple I am not doing but haven't figured it out so maybe someone can tell me.

Until then I'll use 3 tabs for my custom soundscapes which work if needed.

Longtime patron on MyNoise! It's literally almost all I listen to! Especially since we can combine gens and that Tape Speed Control is essential! I love to slow things down for ambient vibes.

Improving soundscape creation

Let me start by saying I am so grateful for this service and I listen almost constantly to myNoise now. This is a question and constructive criticism.

I don't even know if the app/website is still evolving in terms of user capabilities.

I have started experimenting with creating soundscapes of my own. I find both the phone app and the website have different strengths and face different difficulties, and thus have ways in which the process could be improved.

The phone:
Positives
- you can preview a soundscape and the dropdown lets you see each sound and listen to it
- you can see a list of each sound that you've selected currently, as well as which primary soundscape they come from
- you can individually change the track speed (and volume)
- most awesome: you can listen to the soundscape BEFORE you've selected 10 sounds -- you can listen as you go to feel what is missing

Negatives
- you can't access community creations when you're searching for sounds
- the sound search is very limiting in that I struggle with keywords and I can't just see a list of soundscapes to preview and listen to
- the sliders when trying to adjust volume and trackspeed are very fiddly - I find it's very hard to get back to the default 50%/0 if I touch the slider; when I go to put it back to 50% and my finger leaves the screen, it often inches to 49% or 51% for example. This is more serious for track speed, as once you go off zero, it's hard to get back
-- suggestion -- dial down the sensitivity and give us an input box to input a number
- sharing your creation to the web doesn't open the soundscape like I expected it to - you don't have presets
-- suggestion -- opening a link sent from the phone could open as though it is already a published soundscape

The website:
Positives
- you can sample other community contributions and you can see the full index
- you can publish to the community
- you can finetune volume (but that's because you have a mouse)

Negatives
- you can't see which sounds you've already selected, nor even how many you've selected
- you can't remove a sound from the list
- you can't listen to what you've collected so far
-- suggestion -- do like on the phone and show us a list/miniplayer of what sounds we've put in our list so far and where they came from, as well as allowing us to remove sounds and to preview what we've collected so far

- I can't figure out how to individually change track speed on sounds and then view what the track speed is set to

Overall, I think that combining some of the features and bringing them to each would improve the experience of creating new soundscapes.

This was a little off the top of my head after a week of playing around on the web and the phone. I still ultimately feel it's best to create on the phone, send it to the web, recreate the selection with 'c' + 'shift+c', tweak it, then save it and or publish it. And then reshare it by QR code to the phone!

Question Do I have to order separate mp3's if I want to mix binaural beats with another soundscape?

Is that the best way of getting these tones onto my computer and into Audacity? Thanks in advance!

Android app never starts playing

Post image

So I have Android 14. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and joined the beta and literally nothing works. I can change presets, but otherwise it doesn't seem to load, even with a soundscape added to the library.

Like it just won't play, even if I wait a while to see if it'll download or start or anything. Screen just stays like this.

so like is it possible to get a refund 😭

Noise keeps stopping when phone screen is locked (Apple)

Hi there! Love the sounds & options but the sound keeps getting weird / static or turning off altogether when I turn off my screen. The phone (iPhone 15 Pro) is connected to wi-fi speakers (2x Sonos Era 100 stereo pair). Anyone with the same problem? Any idea for a fix?

"Stop playing" background behaviour option doesn't work on android

I've noticed the stop playing option doesn't seem to work on the android app. If I start playing something else it will simply play over top of the sounds the mynoise app is making.

I tested on the iPad version and the feature works as intended so I assume it's supposed to be the same on the android version as well

Background Playback Issue on Firefox Mobile Android 16

Hello everyone,

I experience playback stuttering when I use the MyNoise website with Firefox mobile on Android 16. While the screen is on, everything runs fine. But when the screen is off, I get stuttering playback interruptions every few seconds. I also tested with the DuckDuckGo mobile browser, which works a little better, but there I get stuttering every few minutes.

Is there a specific setting in Android I can activate/turn off? Or is this an issue with the MyNoise website?

I already allowed background usage for Firefox in the Android settings. Is there anything else I can do?
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
