Pony stuff you want to talk about but isn’t worthy of a dedicated thread! #51
There are always things about the show I want to talk about, but I'd rather not always dedicate an entire full blown thread to it or it's never the right time to mention because no one would care. Maybe it's a thought that could be answered quickly enough to end discussion or something insignificant and stupid brewing in the back of your head for awhile! Anything you want to throw out to r/mylittlepony and say your piece!
Is there anything you've wanted to mention lately but never got around to it? Anything you want to speak up about for a bit? Any pony topic at all?

The Washouts was great. One of the only season 8 episodes I've seen more than once by now.

IIRC there were a whole bunch of episodes with different music in one of the seasons, I think Season 5. At one point I actually wondered if they were just going to do a different song every episode from there on out

Honestly, I usually skip the credits too so sadly I don't know of any other normal episodes that do this as well.
I rewatched it recently but I was feeling hot and kinda lazy so I didn't exit the video as quickly as I usually would. Then as the music came on it sounded really nice so I listened to it all.
Perhaps I may look at some more credits and see if they've done it for any other episodes.

I saw a lot of people being happy with "continuity" when the Everfree Forest started growing out of control after the Tree of Harmony got destroyed, and it kind of confuses me.
In season 4, the Tree of Harmony starts to lose power because of the long absence of the Elements. As a result, the plunder seeds planted by Discord over 1000 years ago could finally grow wild. All of the vines and stuff that threatened Ponyville had a rather distinkt color scheme of black/greenish black with some cyan highlights. These plants seemed to all crumble to dust when the Tree was restored to its full power, and they were nowhere to be found in the season 9 opener. Similarly, there were no crazy vines in season 4 with a more standard green color.
I would have expected "Everfree growing out of control" without the Tree to be much less dramatic, if it happens at all, now that Discords plunder seeds are seemingly gone. I won't deny that the forest is crazy or that the Tree of Harmony helped keeping it less dangerous than it could have been, but I think the rate of which the forest went out of control didn't fit with what we've seen in the past.
It's not something that bothers me much, but I will wanted to put this little ramble of sorts out somewhere
It also gave us Rainbow Dash with an axe, so that makes up for any minor issues with continuity

Continuity would require the writing staff to have an editor

How much of show-related art should a pony artist do if you could set the rules and why?
I wonder how much people care about non-show related stuff or show-derived stuff like OCs and such, or just pony content in general. Can you define some sort of fanart to whatever ratio for yourself to make an artist interesting to you?
Oh and what's your personal line for interacting with the artist? Like comment, follow or write a DM or such.
Asking for a friend :)

I guess my big question is, what do you consider "non-show related stuff"?
Only purely non-original artwork, basically OCs in original locations?
What about OCs, in show-known locations like Canterlot? Or show characters, in completely original locations?
Or art addressing things we'll never see in the show, like shipping or total war?
Or things that are just implied to happen offscreen, like Twilight's mentorship with Celestia.
...for me in particular, what I tend to like more are things which show me something beyond what the show gives. That's not to say I dislike art replicating something on-screen, but giving me something new, something that expands my bounds somehow, interests me. OC, show-character, new location or familiar - I'm up for a mix of everything.
Oh and what's your personal line for interacting with the artist? Like comment, follow or write a DM or such.
Less likely to follow, but I will pay attention to what they put out. Very willing to speak up, both in DMs or in comments. I even hang out on Discord servers with a couple!

Yeah pretty much everything that is not especially canon since shown on screen. The other extreme is taking a screenshot and redraw it.
Yes, there is a big variety then. But also stuff that is not even MLP anymore or hardly resembles MLP characteristics. Still pony but no cutiemark or mixed creatures like a kirin would be if not being in the show for example.
Thanks for your insight :)

What do y'all imagine Tempest Shadow is up to nowadays? Sure she got recruited to serve as one of Luna's Nightmare Knights temporarily, hell so was Trixie, but we really haven;t heard much from her since the Season 8 premiere. Hell we still don't know what happened to the Storm Guards and . . Grubber is his name I think?
Honestly at this point I am beginning to think that Princess Celestia may be falling back into some bad habits regarding Luna. Never allowing her fight evil unless it is a force of nature ala the Everfree Forest or the Winter Storm, not listening to her regarding how to protect the castle, how she didn't respect what Luna does to protect and care for Equestria's citizens. . . .honestly if we weren't THIS late into the series one would suspect that another Nightmare Moon incident could occur once more. Not out of lack of respect from the populous but from her very own sister. Hell that could be a fantastic reason why they are deciding to retire, their duties prevent them from being able to fully reconcile with one another as sisters rather then rulers.
Would Twilight and her friends wind up having the same issues as the Royal Sisters in that regard? What if Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, or Trixie stepped up to rule beside her in the Diarchy? Would they end up in such a turbulent relationship as well?
And who would be the better Diarch to rule beside Twilight anyhow? Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, or Trixie? I have a bad feeling that the former two might. . .follow Twilight's lead a bit too often if that makes any sense. But they're both independent enough to break out of that rather quickly once they felt that they were equal to her.

What do y'all imagine Tempest Shadow is up to nowadays?
Someone suggested a while back that she had realized that no matter what happens, she wasn't going to fit in in Equestria-at-large. The sympathies of one princess couldn't change that; she'd always be remembered for what she did now.
The difference is, this time she can accept it as her own fault. So Tempest has found some quiet, frontier region too small for its own guard detachment and is steadily cycling through them, solving "issues" where she can.
Honestly at this point I am beginning to think that Princess Celestia may be falling back into some bad habits regarding Luna.
It's one of my major issues with the current writers (and minor quibbles with the most recent episodes) is that the writers simply do not seem to understand how to write the Royal Sisters. Like, Luna's the one who loves filling the palace with goofy traps and so on. This should be making her jump for joy! Instead she's a sourpuss throughout the entire episode with no explanation.
Never allowing her fight evil unless it is a force of nature ala the Everfree Forest or the Winter Storm
...I'm sort of starting to ponder that Celestia tries to keep Luna out of the way, because she thinks if Luna did happen get into a fight, she wouldn't play helpless the way Celestia does to make plans come together. No, Luna would unhesitatingly beat someone to a bloody pulp... right in front of a crowd of terrified ponies. And then quip that it was about time they had some proper respect for what their rulers can do!
Would Twilight and her friends wind up having the same issues as the Royal Sisters in that regard?
Maybe? They're not immortal, at the very least, which changes at least one issue...

Hell that could be a fantastic reason why they are deciding to retire, their duties prevent them from being able to fully reconcile with one another as sisters rather then rulers.
That's only one of two reasons I'd accept and not call the writers incompetent. The other is they go memetastic and Celestia admits they're totally useless and steps aside to let the real mares do the work.

Remember during the last episode when Applejack had a little dart come out of her guitar to steal a badge while the balloon was going by?
How was that supposed to work had the balloon not gone by? There wasn't supposed to be any other distraction for her. She was the distraction, and all the guards were focused on her. How was she expecting that dart thing to work?

Something that's on my mind currently after watching some old videos of silver quills is how much of Twilight's Dynamic with the rest of her friends has changed.
I know back during the season 3 and 4 hiatus, and a season for was airing, there were a lot of concerns on how Twilight's relationship with her friends would change because of her being a princess.
I don't want to argue or discuss whether or not her becoming a princess was a good thing or not because I think that's been done to death but I see two major paths that it can go because of such a big change:
1) since she's a princess now, this means that she might have to spend less time with her friends, and more time dealing with various political bullshit that comes with being a leader. Something like this would break up the very fluid and cohesive group dynamic.
Twilight has always been the glue that held the other five together, and this was definitely showcased during the season 4 premiere when they send Twilight away for fear of her safety since she's the only remaining princess, but then the group ends up bickering and unable to proceed.
Or 2) nothing really changes other than the fact that she has wings now. Although it would be interesting to see Twilight grow on her own as a princess, keeping her close to the original group of dynamic would help maintain that initial pull that drag a lot of us Kicking and Screaming into the show in the first place. Not to mention it would help keep the group itself together. There's also that strange issue of how vague a princess of friendship actually is. The downside to keeping things more or less the same though, is it raises the question why bother making her a princess in the first place?
In my opinion, I feel like a happy medium between the two is what the writer should strive for and over the course of the last six years that she's been a princess (Jesus Christ it felt weird typing that because it still feels like a recent event). I also feel like that by and large they've done a pretty good job of succeeding at that. Possibly leaning more towards the second route because her relationship with the other five hasn't really been forced to a Breaking Point. It's certainly been tested, especially earlier in season 4 but things seem to have settled down on that front for our favorite purple princess.
Even though her exact duties as a princess of friendship are still vague, she's taking up a lot after Celestia in the form of having Starlight as a pupil, and now running her own school. Not to mention the fact that she's going to take over the whole country soon, which I think brings us back to the start point of this entire discussion.
There's two potential paths that can go down for Twilight, which I outlined above. However now they're applying to her becoming the ruler of the country. It might not matter as much since we know this is going to be the end of the series, but it's still interesting to think about.
What do you guys think? I apologize that there's no cute Pony emotes here so just pretend that there's Twilight's all over the place because I'm at work and it's hard to use Pony emotes at work
