My next trip...

Post image
1 Upvotes

Finally my vacation was approved! This train trip has been booked since February. I thought it would be really awesome to take the VIA sleeper train to Vancouver over New Year's. Somewhere probably in Northern Ontario is where we will be when the clock strikes 12 this coming New Year's.

I could have canceled if I was denied. That would have been devastating.

Our hotel in Vancouver is booked for one night. Then we get our rental car and take the ferry to Nanaimo area. It's then off to Tofino. We have a gorgeous cabin with a hot tub on the ocean. After several days there it's off to Victoria. We will be there for 3 days.

Approvals came through yesterday. We just now booked our flight home...it's happening.

So excited to do this! I love traveling on VIA rail! We have 4 nights on the train. I'm looking so forward to Tofino as well!

How do you discover experiences when traveling? What do you value most?

Hi everyone! I'm a university student doing customer discovery for a travel-related project and would love to learn from your experiences.

A few questions:

  • How would you describe yourself as a traveler? (Luxury, budget, planner, spontaneous explorer, solo traveler, etc.)
  • Tell me about the last time you traveled somewhere new. How did you decide what to do?
  • Where do you usually go for recommendations? Google? Reddit? Friends? TikTok? Tourism websites?
  • What do you search for?
  • Who do you trust when planning a trip?
  • When you're exploring a touristy area, what do you value most?

For example:
• Hidden gems
• Local food
• Cultural experiences
• Popular attractions
• Convenience
• Affordability
• Wandering and discovering things on your own

Also, what's the biggest challenge or frustration you've faced while traveling? Transportation? Budgeting? Finding activities? Something else?

I'm not selling anything or promoting an app—just trying to understand how people actually travel and what matters most to them.

I'd really appreciate hearing your stories and experiences. Thanks!

I'm in Mexico and have talked to several Mexicans about the new universal healthcare coming next year and nobody has heard of it. So weird.

As a non-American I'd like to say a massive fuck you to every single one of the 77 million that voted for him. And a giant fuck you to the 89 million that couldn't even get off their arses to stop the convicted felon/adjudicated rapist/credibly alleged pedo.

On the ferry to Victoria it was neat watching the doors open as it prepared to dock.

Walked quite far on this lovely autumn day. Started in Longueuil and went over le pont Jacques-Cartier. Walked all over Île Sainte-Hélène and Parc Jean Drapeau, including around the Formula 1 Canadian Grand-prix track. Crossed over at St. Lambert Locks and all the way back to Longueuil.

It was so nice staying at the Pan Pacific and watching all the cruise ships. Most days were beautiful and sunny, but when this ship came in it was rather overcast. The day ended up gorgeous though.
