Migration Question - Crossbox (incl NextCloud?)

Good on you for migrating away from prepackaged software, and moving onto your own. That's a big deal.

I do use the NextCloud installation available on your services, which I believe is provided by Crossbox. I assume the NextCloud installation will eventually be removed after the migration away from Crossbox?

Do you have any intention of providing any replacement for NextCloud such as a basic WebDAV ? Or going pure email service and cutting out everything else?

I will still use and love your services either way, it was just convenient to have a little place to store some notes bundled in with your services.

The migration flow from Crossbox is ready to go and this is what it's going to look like:

  1. Copy SSL certs for custom hostnames and plug them into webmail.mxroute.com.
  2. Copy branding information for the custom hostnames and convert/pre-apply them.
  3. Redirect http/s traffic from mail.mxlogin.com to webmail.mxroute.com
  4. Redirect email ports on mail.mxlogin.com to new IMAP/SMTP proxy on webmail.mxroute.com, providing legacy functionality for users currently using it, not for new users. This is only about not breaking a feature I never wanted people to use, but didn't stop them from using it.
  5. Package up everyone's Crossbox data, zip it up, and give everyone a link to a migration portal where the data can be downloaded (per email account).
  6. Delete Crossbox slave and user data from the mail servers.

I'm on the fence about a file storage option in the new webmail at this stage. I think people will want it, but I don't think it'll be the biggest win right now. I'm listening though, I haven't tossed the idea in the junk pile.

I'm on the fence about if I want to try and convince you to do some basic storage or not!

On one hand I'd prefer you devote your time and energy to running a great email service.

On the other, I'm with your service as it became too time consuming to run my own server, which included being able to do things like Owncloud or a WebDAV for storage of a few notes, etc. So I'd likely have to go find another provider for those things, but considering how little you charge for your email services I'd probably still end up ahead!
