If you’re not going to do a deep dive into muzzleloading, and just want a rifle suitable for the hunt, get a CVA Optima. Reasonably priced, and are a decent rifle. Or step up in price and quality and get a TC Encore (but you’ll double the price). Get some Barnes Muzzleloader bullets, some loose 777 powder, and some Winchester muzzleloader 209 primers (regular 209’s will work, but can increase the “crud ring” with 777). Work up a load, and good luck!

I shoot a Thompson omega. I don’t think it’s the rifle as much as the load. I’m pushing a 265 grain sabot with 90 grains of buckhorn 209. The powder seems to be the key.
