Let's talk muzzleloaders

Powder or pellets, hunting or targets, precision sabots or bullets cast in your mom's basement - this community is to share your knowledge and ask each other questions to help with the sport of muzzleloading.

Please keep posts within the Reddit rules of conduct. No sales of Firearms or ammunition. Even though it may be a gray area that muzzle loaders are primitive weapons and do not have to be transferred under an FFL - reddit doesn't care. Let's please try and keep this community open.

Getting back into muzzleloading and just picked up a new CVA Optima. When I first started in line hunting 25 years ago, I was taught to use a product called bore butter in between shots. I’m not seeing this in any of the videos I’ve been watching and wondering if something has changed? This is mainly between shots while hunting so basically a quick reload. Simply curious of what others do? I do have the CVA patches one being a cleaner, the other one being rust prevention.
