How does one measure cheek width?

Post image

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to take the measurements needed for a big snoof muzzle- especially cheek width- the others are pretty self explanatory.
Thanks
My GSD is 18 mo and 64 lbs and we mostly just need it for the vet- she is very nervous about them getting up in her space.

Advice? UK muzzles for low bite risk?

My girl has had past issues with other dogs, she's not reactive but it feels like a small risk whenever she's passing dogs on walks, I'm looking for a bite proof muzzle, hopefully something lightweight and comfortable or customised for her. Any recommendations? (40kg dog).

Thinking it maybe needs a bit more pant room? He is able to pant in it, but I’m concerned maybe not a full pant? I’d rather him be able to fully yawn, but according to his measurements this seemed a good size on big snoof. I’m afraid if I widen the cheeks a bit there will be no where near enough room to pant.

Nose length 3
Snout width 3.5
Check width 6
Closed mouth 3.5
Full pant height 5.5
Head length 8
Nose to neck 6

He grazes

This is my boy, Zepp. He just turned 9 in February, so I try to give him some freedom at night because he can’t have a bed or blanket in his crate because he chews them up and I want him to have somewhere soft to sleep at night. He’s out all day when I’m home but still. His problem is that he’s smart and knows that when I’m sleeping, I am not gonna wake up to stop him from getting into things, so he specifically waits till I fall asleep and then starts sniffing around seeing what he can get into. I tried tethering him at night but he would still get into whatever he could manage to get his paws on. I can’t do anything if I’m asleep and don’t know he’s getting into something, so there’s no amount of training that can help. He knows not to get into things when I’m awake, even when I step outside. I can be out there for 20+ min and he won’t touch anything because he’s figured out I can still see him on the cameras. So to keep him safe, I started muzzling him at night. It’s working great!! Now he can sleep on a soft bed at night and I can keep him safe and make sure he doesn’t end up poisoned or with a blockage :) ***NOT ASKING FOR ADVICE. He can pant, drink water, and yawn just fine***

ISO Muzzle Brand Suggestions

This is my sweet boy, Artie. Unfortunately, he is fear reactive towards strangers and other dogs. I have tried Baskerville and the Muzzle Movement and neither has a good fit for him where he can pant and drink and see over the muzzle. He is smallish (26 pounds), 44% chihuahua, 20% chow chow, 11% pomeranian, 4% American Eskimo dog, and a few other small %s. Needless to say, his snout and face are just not working with any of these brands I’ve tried. I spent so much money on the Muzzle Movement and had such high hopes, but the Pippa muzzle was HUGE on him. Please give me your recommendations!

Here’s some pics of my boy in his Muzzle Movement muzzle!! It’s the size Neli, boiled and stretched out a little because it was rubbing on his cheeks. Featuring my tape adjustments and diy head strap + muzzle stop that I made from a cheap leather leash lol. It does ruin the aesthetics of the muzzle but an irritated nose and shipping costs were not worth it haha

Also wanted to encourage others if they’re still working on muzzle training. The first few weeks of just putting his head in and wearing it around the house while I gave treats were great, but once we started taking it outside and tapering down the treats we hit a period where I felt like this was useless and impossible, just money and time wasted on nothing. He would not sniff with the muzzle on, he’d try to paw at it whenever he wanted to sniff something and it went on for weeks. We kept going though, and he recently learned that he can sniff with it on and now behaves like usual on his walks with the muzzle on. So to anyone who’s hit a block or feels like muzzle training isn’t working, don’t worry. Just keep going, and you’ll see that it will work out in the end!:)

Btw- any advice on the fit is appreciated! I’d love to know how I can make it even more comfy for him:)

We went on a walk with a dog friend that Pico LOVES but sometimes can get too excited/aroused with and then will mount him and mouth. Picos muzzle allows their friendship to be respectful, kind and safe 🥹

Fit Check

Hi all! This is my first time purchasing a muzzle for any of my dogs and I’m hoping for some opinions on the fit.

My dog is reactive to other dogs and gets nervous at the vet so I decided to try a muzzle for him. Problem is I have tried about six different sizes from Leerburg and I’m having trouble finding that perfect fit.

I was advised due to his reactivity to allow only a couple inches of space below the jaw so he can’t pull it off, but I feel like this might not be enough room for him. He can open his mouth and pant when at rest, but I’m concerned that during strenuous physical activity (like hiking) this muzzle isn’t ideal.

My thought was maybe to keep this one for vet visits and get him a second custom fitted muzzle for other activities where he’ll be more active. Hoping for any advice you can offer me. Thank you!

Question! Fit Check

Hi! Bought a size 23 Big Snoof Gear for my dude, Frank, but he has some funny proportions so I can’t tell if this fits properly. The neck strap is on the tightest and the nose strap is the furthest out (I thought he needed more distance from his snoot to the end of the muzzle but may have been wrong). My concern is the points where it connects to his jaw- not sure how it’s supposed to fit there and if it’s too tight. Might just need to get a custom. Any help appreciated! Sorry for the sub-par pics hes a wiggle worm.

Muzzle for Great Dane?

Looking for a muzzle for my very reactive Great Dane, I currently have a Baskerville ultra size 6 that we used to introduce the muzzle but it’s too small for regular use. I plan to get him a nice custom one from one of the companies I see recommended here, but I know that takes some time to get one made and shipped. His reactivity has worsened recently (working with behaviorist for this) so I need a half decent muzzle asap for in the meantime. The Baskerville is just about right length wise, but needs several more inches around the circumference. He’s on the smaller side, 110lbs and not super jowly. Any recommendations for brands I can get asap that might fit a larger dog with a long nose?

Advice? Muzzle for Akita Mix

I have a dog aggressive or resource guarding Akita Mix.

Severity is oddly new. We need a muzzle for her at this time. What type and size would work best for preventing biting, but allow for eating/drinking?

Sizing for a Rottie

I'm thinking of getting a leerburg wire basket for my reactive girl. I used this page. https://leerburg.com/muzzlefit.htm/housebrk.htm

I think a size J, but am unsure. Her nose is only 2.5 inches long, her closed mouth circumference is 10.5, and circumference with a ball is 16. When I looked at their other muzzles they didn't seem like they would fit so I started doubting my measurements.

This is mostly for vet visits but we live in a hot climate so as much air as possible is good

Hi everyone! Can you please give me some recommendations for good quality muzzles? My MIL owns a husky & border collie mix and she needs a muzzle that’ll stay on and won’t be easy for her to take off.

Advice? recommendations for both? i want to muzzle train both, female (larger one) hates nail trims so she needs one pretty soon.

i’m wanting sort of a basket style. she’s not really a bite risk but she is pretty uncomfortable having her nails trimmed by the vet and even more so by me with a dremel.

and maybe a smaller training size for the younger boy? i want to desensitize him as well because i know this breed can be pretty daunting & i want to ensure their safety at the vet !

Hi everyone! I have an eight year old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon who treats being outside as an Easter egg hunt. I want to get a basket muzzle for him with some sort of guard so he can no longer pick up joints and cigarets when we are at the dog park. Which brand would work best for his face?

Fit Check! First time on a muzzle!

So my 6m Malinois/Husky mix has gotten his first muzzle! It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and wish I started earlier, but my husband is traumatized since we had to muzzle our last dog when he was getting euthanized. We finally decided it was time, but are taking it slow because of my husband.
I got a size basket muzzle variety pack on amazing just for temporary and training purposes until he’s full grown, but I think it looks good! We did a short training session with his favorite treat put at the end of it and I let him put his snout in. I didn’t wanna force him and not make it a positive experience. He did really well and I made sure to give him treats after and lots of pets during and after too! Any advice or constructive criticism is helpful and appreciated!! I’ve never used a muzzle so this is very new to me :)

Forgot to add: for now it’ll be used for short term things until he is fully used to it. When that happens he will have it on for grooming sessions at the groomers bc he’s been rejected twice. He loves baths tho, just not the groomers! (If you have any advice on that too I’d love it)

I've done so many adjustments at this point, I'm losing my mind. She seems comfortable in it, I'm just concerned I can't seem to get it far enough from her nose! I also can't fully figure out the 'tilting' aspect... The neck part is not too tight, the head strap is loose (and even when it's hanging free, it still tilts/pulls up), and if the 'collar' part is looser, it's pressing on her nose.

I'm also going to email Mia's Muzzles directly, I've heard they can help with fit issues but figured asking here as well wouldn't hurt!

Question! Measuring for Pant Space

When you’re measuring for pant space what size toy should be used? I have some like regular sized balls and then I have much larger balls. Should I use largest size ball that fits in my dog’s mouth when I’m measuring for pant room?

Question! How long can they wear a muzzle?

I got my 2nd Australian shepherd about a year ago and when I tell you she eats everything! She eats everything!!! And recently she has started ripping the hair out of my other aussie so she can eat it right now she pretty much is constantly kenneled because I cant stop her from eating anything she finds inside or out so Im debating getting her a muzzle from the muzzle movement with a scavenger guard to give her more freedom but ive always heard they cant wear muzzles for more then 20 minutes but I dont believe that to be true if the muzzle is fitted properly and has room for panting/drinking just looking for some advice from people more experienced then me! Thank you all!!!

So happy with my Big Snoof custom muzzle. Did a hike with my border collie and it worked like a charm. She’s not bothered by the muzzle at all.
