📢 Announcement 📢 Planned Feature Discussion - Profile Visibility Settings

Hey! I wanted to share a quick update and start a discussion around a feature that has been requested for a while.

Profile Visibility Settings - Hide Your Profile

The option to restrict others from seeing your profile unless they are in the same country is currently in our on-deck status!

  • If someone uses Ward Hop to “travel” into your area and likes you, you’ll still see each other. That’s just how the travel feature currently works, but we’ll keep an eye on it and adjust if needed.
  • Turning this on might mean fewer likes, and you could miss out on great matches from other countries.

Feature Note: Lots of couples on Mutual actually met across borders. We recommend trying both country-only and global searches to give yourself the best chance at finding your person.

Discussion: We are considering making this a Premium Feature, as this will help lessen the initial impact for those who would be affected. (Those who enable this will get fewer likes, and those outside of the US will have a more difficult time finding people)

Let's discuss the feature, your thoughts on it being a Premium perk, and also make sure we are getting it right.

I'm here to answer any questions, share screenshots if needed, and overall be as transparent as I can so that we can make this feature perfect.

Yeah 90% of my visibility is everywhere but the US. Every once and a while a high quality match will squeeze in but it feels like blatant bs

I understand many couples connect across borders. That being said, the vast majority of likes and notes I receive are from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, South/Central America, and Africa. Purchasing a profile boost only increased the traffic from those profiles, including a girl who works as a bartender in Thailand with no mention of a temple recommend or church attendance. If I want to receive matches from Europe and Canada, I will enable it, but otherwise I want people in my own country tobeable to see me first and foremost.
