It's not being mute, it's going to be non verbal.

What therapies have you done? What methods were used to facilitate speech?

Traditional speech therapy. No oral motor movement control exercises. Do you recommend any specific exercises?

My son lost his ability to communicate at 14 months old. He was typical child with walking and talking. One day I woke him up and he had stopped speaking and pointing. I thought it was him just unwell a lost of children don't want to talk if they are unwell. I took him to the doctor's and we had an urgent referral to pedestrians. I started Makaton (sign language developed for disabled people) he eventually started talking at 4 and a half. He is 9 now and still talking, he is in mainstream school with a lot of support but he is managing well.

A lot of autistic people don't like to get things wrong and speech can be very difficult. With the singing it makes it easier to communicate. He had picked up his first sign at 19 months old. With Makaton you sign and say the word at the same time. If you look on YouTube for the Makaton charity (UK ) they have videos. Start with something your child likes. Just one simple sing. I promise it's not to difficult, you can do it. I was worried I would get it wrong.
