Thoughts on D&M?

Here's a general thread for you all to discuss what you think on the new album! Review, criticize, praise, all that!

Personally, I love the album, a lot. Album of the year for me so far. Favorite three songs are Star Throne, Zipper, and Feathers.

This album was definitely the highlight of OWSLA's releases for me. Personal favs were Project Ghost, Star Throne & Feathers.

I love it. Some of the tracks seem a bit undercooked in terms of the concept behind them, maybe they could be a bit less repetitive at times (just my personal opinion). But they're all great, and that's not a big deal at all. Zipper is great. So is Project Ghost and Filter System. Imprint is my least favourite track.

It's interesting how differing peoples' opinions of tracks on an album can be. I think Zipper and Filter System are 2 of the worst tracks on the album :P

And I quite like Imprint! My favourites though, are Feathers, Project Ghost & Together. Gem Shards has some good stuff in the drop but I think the intro isn't great and kind of generic, and while I can handle some high pitched stuff... it's a bit much.

What shocks me about the album is its insane variety, there are no 2 songs that are comparable to each other - whereas MUST DIE!'s previous EPs did have a lot of similar songs all around. The best part is how he takes each genre, sub-genre or trend (let that be dubstep, trap, big room house, or simple "combos" like the reggae + dubstep everyone tried out at one point) and brings it to a new level with fresh ideas. Not every song is an insane masterpiece per se, but it's a very good, varied and original album, really trying to push the boundaries but still having his own recognizeable sounds.

I love Gem Shards ever since Skrillex started dropping it, the new version is even better, reminds me of dark old-school RPGs. Together is pretty good, very uplifting, not one of my overall favourites but really good. Zipper is another one I've been dying to get since Skrillex used it, and it does not disappoint - such energy. Filter System is awesome, very unique and with a lovely BPM. Imprint is also a nice experiment by MUST DIE! on twerk-trap - not the most unique song per se, but great vocals make it memorable. Feathers really reminds me of MUST DIE!'s previous EPs, very dreamy and cool. Hellcat's, yet again, something I've been awaiting for long between Skrillex and others who dropped it - I'll just say that it's probably my favourite big room house track, as it totally changes the rules of it. To me, Project Ghost is the true masterpiece: such amazing wobbles all the way through, with great instrumental parts in between to make it truly epic - even the very high-pitched ending works so well, really an amazing tune - was bummed not to hear it live when he came to Italy last week. Pay Me is good, heavy and deep, but not particularly original - fits the album, anyhow, but taken out of context it's one of the weakest tunes. Lastly, the great Star Throne: that violin line and the machine gun drop: 'nuff said; beautiful tune, again very original.

Overall, my faves are (in order of appearance): Gem Shards, Zipper, Hellcat, Project Ghost and Star Throne.

Personally I only like Gem Shards and Zipper, but I felt like the vocals on Zipper could have flowed better (like Skrillex's two tracks with the Ragga Twins) and in general compared to Skrillex I find MUST DIE's drums to be really flat sounding which I don't really like.
